Spring is just around the corner and New Beginning’s 12th annual Say Yes to the Prom Dress is fast approaching on Saturday March 16 from 10am-2pm! For one day only, girls can browse our huge selection of formal, prom and graduation dresses ranging in sizes from 0-26.  It is FREE and open to the public…  Plus there will be plenty of fitting rooms available to ensure a perfect fit.

Since its inception 12 year ago, Say Yes to the Prom Dress has helped over 1400 young women find the dress of their dreams in celebration of formal events like prom and graduation. We couldn’t do this without the support of our community which is why we are asking you to help make dreams come true by donating new or gently used dresses to our event. Dresses can be dropped off Monday-Thursday 9am-6pm at 1049 Janette Ave., Windsor.

 

Needed:

• Prom dresses

• Semi-formal dresses

• Graduation dresses

We are especially in need of sizes 0 to 4 and 14+

The Shaanti International Museum of Costumes and Dolls has a new home for a rotating exhibit at the historic Gordon House in Amherstburg.

Rare and unique dolls and costumes from around the world will now be showcased at the Gordon House Information Tourist Center located at 268 Dalhousie Street in Amherstburg.

Kicking off the exhibit with Black History month on Friday, February 1st, 2019, the exhibit will rotate featured dolls and costumes four times a year. Other themes throughout the year will include Native/Indigenous, Canadian/early French, The Uncommon and Victorian/holiday dolls. The museum was formerly located at the “little white church” since 2011 until the sale of the property in December of 2018.

“The exhibits will be further reachable to residents and visitors because of the new, downtown location and hours. The dolls and costumes are fascinating in their origin and fabrication. We encourage people to stop in to view this cultural attraction in the heart of Amherstburg” says Anne Rota, Manager of Tourism and Culture.

All are invited to a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, February 1, 2019 at 4:30 p.m. to open the first exhibit at The Gordon House Tourist Information Center, 268 Dalhousie St. S. Amherstburg, Ontario.

On February 8, 2019 at the St. Clair Centre for the Arts in Windsor,Canadian and U.S. experts will have an opportunity to share their views and experiences in the areas related to patient safety. Physicians, first responders, community leaders and medical students from both sides of the border will come together to identify best practices and areas for continued improvement in the healthcare field.
 
Morning Keynote Speaker Ken Daniels, announcer for the Detroit Red Wings and founder of The Jamie Daniels Foundation, will share his family’s story of losing son Jamie to the opioid epidemic and how this experience opened up his eyes to the world of addiction care. Ken is uniting communities in effort to combat drug addiction by educating families about the professional guidance, resources and support available to ensure there is a level of accountability in the ongoing care and treatment of addiction.
 
Luncheon Keynote Speaker Denise Bertin-Epp, of Urban Recovery, will talk about creating sustainable outcomes in recovery, as well as discuss safety in the healthcare system for both patients and care providers dealing with substance related intake.
 
This symposium boasts a broad range of speakers from both sides of the border, covering such topics as Safety and Children in the Healthcare SystemCaring for an Aging Population and Persons with Disabilities, andIntegrated Wellness Programs for Upcoming Practitioners and Healthcare Professionals.   Speakers will discuss the current state of international healthcare and a look at the key issues for educating current staff and incoming practitioners.  Safety in the healthcare system will also be addressed by outlining effective tools used from assessment to delivery, the options for the sharing of resources, and the innovation that makes this area an international hub for healthcare.
