Community Event - Niagara - Free Assistance for Children with Dyslexia

After three years of planning, working and fund-raising the Scottish Rite Charitable Foundation Learning Centre for Hamilton was officially opened. More than 100 people attended the official ceremony in the Scottish Rite Cathedral on a beautiful, sunny Sunday afternoon. The ceremony was followed by the ribbon cutting and tours of the new centre. Cake and coffee were served throughout the afternoon after the ribbon cutting.

So many people and organizations must be thanked from cash donors to contractors, tradespeople and volunteers. All of them believed that “Helping to Solve the Puzzles of the Mind” through one-on-one assistance for children with dyslexia is a worthwhile cause and put their expertise and money into it. The Centre is now open and operating and the first students have been registered and assigned teachers.  Tutoring utilizing the Orton-Gillingham approach to tutoring, a highly recognized method in the field of dyslexia, is offered free of charge due to the generosity of our donors.

Children who have been diagnosed with dyslexia will be welcomed from Hamilton as well as the surrounding areas of Halton, Niagara, Brant, Waterloo, Wellington and Mississauga.

To find out more about the Centre, contact Don Thornton, Chairman, The Scottish Rite Charitable Foundation Learning Centre for Hamilton.
