Windsor International Writers is hosting their bi-annual writers’ conference July 6-8 at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites Ambassador Bridge, 1855 Huron Church Rd. Writers will get the opportunity to network, receive feedback on their work from industry professionals at the Intensive Round tables, and learn how to improve their writing skills through workshops and keynote speakers. We also have Pitch-a-palooza, stand-up comedy, and more. Sunday will focus on what it takes to succeed in today’s publishing industry including marketing, how to self-publish, profiling, and self-promotion.

Writers at any stage of their career and from anywhere in the world are encouraged to attend. Keynote speakers include Charlie Angus of the NDP, The Book Doctors, Deborah Dundas of the Toronto Star, author Michele “Wojo” Wojciechowski, Brian Henry of The Quick Brown Fox writers’ blog, and authors Andrew Pyper and Craig Davidson/Nick Cutter. In addition to such insightful voices are several publishing houses and literary agencies, including ChiZine Press, Mirror World Publishing, Walkerville Publishing, The Rights Factory Agency, and others.

Registration is open now and can be found, along with more information about the conference, on Windsor International Writers website:https://windsorinternationalwriters.com/events/windsor-international-writers-conference/

Public Notices/Announcements - Windsor/Leamington - You Can't Sing That! - Reverse Cabaret Benefit

In partnership with the Welcome Centre, we are pleased to announce an evening to benefit women & families! After a successful cabaret fundraiser for the Welcome Centre Shelter for Women & Families last August, raising more than $2,500, this talented group of more than 20 performers decided that they wanted to do another successful event to support the Welcome Centre. This time, there’s a twist--rather than a typical cabaret, they have chosen to do a Reverse Cabaret! This means that popular pop songs will be performed by singers who identify as a gender different from the gender of the original character or performer. The event organizers hope to raise even more this year!

Concert on June 8, 7:30pm at The Olde Walkerville Theatre. Tickets, $20

For tickets visit https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/you-cant-sing-that-tickets-44965631414?aff=es2

There will also be a silent auction and door prizes. If you would like to donate an item, please contact us at welcomecentrecabaret@gmail.com. Your ticket gets you one entry into the door prize draw but you can bring a non-perishable food item to get an extra entry. All proceeds and non-perishable food items collected will go directly to the Welcome Centre.

The Welcome Centre Shelter assisted more than 500 single women and families last year in finding safe and permanent homes. This event will mean that the funds we raise will go to helping us improve our much needed services.
