INNOVATION AWARD
Recognizes a business that has significantly improved the esthetics and functionality of the operating environment through the development and implementation of an innovative product, process, technology or service within the past four years. The nominees should also demonstrate that the use or innovation has been commercialized and is in the marketplace today.

NEW BUSINESS OF THE YEAR
A new business or an owner / manager of a business venture that is at least one year old but less than three, or an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to their local economy, and the entrepreneurial spirit. Nominees will demonstrate company growth including sales, profitability, growth prospects, employment creation and acceptance in the market. In addition, they will show commitment to research and development and the development of technological advances in the company’s industry sector.

PILLARS OF OUR COMMUNITY
Recognizes a registered not-for-profit organization, philanthropic organization, or person that has made an outstanding contribution to the social, cultural or economic well-being of the Windsor-Essex area. This nominee positively impacted the community, and demonstrated best business practices. In addition their business mission/objective/goals of the organization reflect a community need which has a clearly defined strategic plan.
2018 Recipient – Transition to Betterness
PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR
An individual professional, who is self-employed or employed in a company or organization. The person has demonstrated excellence in his or her field of business in the recent past, and has demonstrated leadership and positively impacted the community. Examples include CEOs, lawyers, accountants, doctors, bankers, consultants, etc. Non profit leaders are eligible for this award.
2018 Recipient – Dan Gemus (Dan Gemus Real Estate Team)
ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR
An owner or founder who formed at least one venture, primarily responsible for the recent (last two years) performance of a privately held business that is at least three years old, who has made an outstanding contribution to their local economy, and the entrepreneurial spirit. Nominees will demonstrate company growth including sales, profitability, growth prospects, risk taking, employment creation and acceptance in the market. In addition, they will show commitment to research and development and the development of technological advances in the company’s industry sector.
2018 Recipient – Vince Schiller (Southwestern Manufacturing)
YOUNG PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR
Recognizes a standout young professional/entrepreneur who is ‘on the rise’. Nominees will be 35 years of age and under and will demonstrate a proven commitment to our community through outstanding scholarship and achievements and exemplary leadership and community involvement. The recipient must demonstrate innovative thinking, exemplary leadership qualities, commitment to making a difference, ability to engage and inspire others, and must act as a positive role model to his/her peers and colleagues. In addition, the recipient will demonstrate significant growth potential as a future leader in the Windsor-Essex community. Non-profit leaders are eligible for this award.

TOURISM & HOSPITALITY AWARD
Recognizes a business that has demonstrated excellence in the areas of hospitality and tourism, and has played a vital role in the growth of their sector. The business should demonstrate the critical success factors that have played a role in their success including employee relations, economic development/investment, business growth, and contributions to the community. This local business goes above and beyond providing extraordinary customer service and recognizes the importance of hospitality in the area as well as serving the community. Examples include wineries, restaurants, hotels, tourist attractions, golf courses, etc.

ATHENA AWARD
The ATHENA Award Program celebrates the potential of all women as valued members and leaders of the community and recognizes those who support them. The ATHENA Award honours individuals who strive toward the highest levels of professional accomplishment…women and men who excel in their chosen field, have devoted time and energy to their community in a meaningful way, and who also open paths so that other women may follow.

Eligibility
- Nominations are open for on month with the deadline for nominations Monday, September 17, 2018 at 5:00 pm.
- Any individual can make nominations for any of the Business Excellence Award categories according to the criteria outlined for each award.
- The nominator should ensure the nominee would show a willingness to participate.
- Self-nominations are acceptable.
- Not for profit organizations are ineligible for nomination for a business award.
- Previous award winners are eligible for re-nomination under another category after a minimum wait of three (3) years and under the same category after five (5) years.
- Chamber membership not a requisite.
- Company/Individual/Organization must be located in Windsor Essex County.
- Current members of the Chamber Board of Directors, Business Excellence Awards Committee, Judges and Staff are not eligible.
- Sponsors and their employees are eligible for nominations in any category other than the one they are sponsoring.
- Nominees may be disqualified if it is found by the Committee to contain exaggerated or falsified information or charged under any Canadian law. We also reserve the right to retract the award.
Process
After the initial screening process, a select group of nominees will be sent an information questionnaire to be completed and returned to the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce by Tuesday, October 9, 2018. The nominee will be asked to provide information on how they meet each of the criteria. The questionnaire will require some investment of time to complete and all documents and information will be treated in confidence.
An volunteer judging panel comprised of business professionals will complete the judging of the finalists in each award category. No member of the judging panel shall have direct familial or financial involvement with any of the finalists selected. The judging panel will complete its deliberations and finalists will be selected based upon who best adheres to the eligibility criteria and the overall goals of recognizing business excellence. Judges may visit the nominee at their place of business. The decisions of the judges are final, completely independent and will remain confidential.
Finalists will be selected for each award. A winner for each category will be announced at the Business Excellence Awards on Wednesday, April 24, 2019. This evening will bring together Windsor and area business leaders and media for a celebration of excellence in business.
The Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce reserves the right to verify the information and to conduct a background check of the nominee prior to being considered. Submissions are held in confidence and are the property of the Chamber.
