This year on World Alzheimer’s Day the Alzheimer Society of Windsor & Essex County (ASWE) is hosting our 2nd annual breakfast event. The World Alzheimer’s Day Breakfast, will be held on Friday, September 21 at The Windsor Club on Riverside Drive. We hope you will join us!
World Alzheimer’s Day, is a day on which Alzheimer’s organizations around the world concentrate their efforts on raising awareness about Alzheimer’s and dementia. We have chosen this day to recognize an individual in our community with the Others Before Self Award. This award provides ASWE a way to give tribute to volunteers, individuals and companies who support us through leadership, fundraising, philanthropy and volunteerism.
This year we are honouring a much-beloved volunteer in the Day Away, Mrs. Judy Jenner. Mrs. Jenner provides a warm and positive experience for our clients and their families. She interacts and advocates with respect, compassion and always with a smile. We are looking forward to honouring her at the event.
The breakfast will also feature author, Shannon Manery, whose Mother lived with Alzheimer’s disease. Manery’s new memoir, “Gloria” depicts 15 years of caregiving by her father. The book is based on the detailed diary he kept.
We hope that you will consider joining us on this very special day. Tickets are $35 per person.

On Saturday September 22, at The Rockstar Music Hall, we will be hosting the first annual Windsor Poker Ride for Ride For Dad. The TELUS Ride For Dad runs all across Canada and it has never had a Bicycle event, until now! Riders, in teams of 4, will all start at the Rockstar Music Venue, located at 2418 Central Ave in Windsor and will be following maps along a unique scenic route around the city collecting stamps and completing tasks at establishments and businesses along the way. We will all come together at the end to celebrate and relax with a nacho bar, complimentary massages from the students from the Canadian College of massage therapy and light refreshments. The top 3 teams with the best poker hand will win prizes, as well as the top pledge earner!
The proceeds from this event will go to Prostate Cancer Fight Foundation which gives money locally to research and awareness. Last year the Windsor TELUS Ride For Dad gave just over $42,000 to the University of Windsor for Dr. Pandey's clinical trials, using Dandelion Root Extract to treat Prostate and other Cancers. This year, they gave $20,000 to Dr. Lisa Porter for her work with treatment resistant prostate cancers and new ways to battle these forms of the disease. We have some major corporate sponsors and it is sure to be a great event for a great cause. Participants are encouraged to register online following the link at the bottom of the page located at http://ridefordad.ca/windsor-bicycle/
Thank you in advance for your support and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact either one of us and hopefully we will see you on Saturday, September 22nd!
