Community Event - Peterborough/Lindsay - International Women's Day: The Art of Resistance

The annual International Women's Day Community Potluck and Panel Presentation celebrates inclusion, equity and joining together for social change. This year's panel presentation will focus on 'The Art of Resistance' and explore intersectional and creative responses to inspire social movement and challenge racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, and classism.

Special guests include: Chief Phyllis Williams, Kim Muskratt & Suzanne Smoke, Councillor Therrien, local artists and activists, Smokii Sumac Semple and Niambi Leigh, as well as visiting artists, Nina Mercer and Alexandria Smith from Black Women Artists for Black Lives Matter in partnership with Aging Activism, the Raging Grannies, Creating Space Community Arts Studio and more!

This is a free, inclusive family-friendly event, organized in partnership with community organizations and sponsors. Donations and potluck items are welcome.

Time: Doors open at 5pm. 5:30pm: potluck & celebration; IWD panel program: 6:30-8:30pm.

Community Event - Niagara - BISHOP'S GALA FOR/NIAG FDN. FOR CATHOLIC EDUCATION

The Bishop's Gala is an annual fundraiser in support of the Niagara Foundation for Catholic Education to raise funding for scholarships and to assist students in need.

The event is scheduled for Friday, April 20 at Club Roma, 125 Vansickle road in St. Catharines. The evening starts at 5:30 pm with a very popular Antipasto bar and cocktail reception, complimentary wine tasting and cash bar followed by dinner at 7:00pm. The evening features a silent auction and fun entertainment provided by Niagara Comedian Joe Pillitteri a past recipient of a Niagara Catholic Distinguished Alumni Award.

Tickets are $80 each and can be purchased on line  at www.niagaracatholic.ca. or by cheque payable to Niagara Foundation for Catholic Education ($30 tax receipt available upon request) Tickets are available individually or in group tables and must be purchased by April 13, 2018.

The price of the ticket includes one complimentary drink ticket per person, and 2 bottles of wine are also placed on each table for dinner.

Community Event - Ottawa Valley - March Break at the Champlain Trail Museum

March Break is less than a month away, have you made plans yet? The Champlain Trail Museum & Pioneer Village is presenting three March Break programs this year. Each program is $10.00 per child.

 Monday March 12th is Adventures along the Ottawa River; where we will be taking a walkthrough of the history of the Ottawa River, touching on some of the different trades and people that have used the river. In each section there will be fun activities and crafts connected to the different trades. The program will run from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. and it is available for ages 8-11.

Wednesday March 14th is Water Rangers: Protect Our Waters. Two members of the Water Rangers organization; Julie Sell and Jennifer Valentine, will be teaching how to test water and the importance of water testing to the community and the world. There will also be crafts and games associated with water and the creatures that need it to survive. The program will run from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. and it is available for ages 5-12.

Thursday March 15th is A Trip to Wonderland. Follow us down the rabbit hole into Wonderland. There will be activities and crafts associated with Alice, the White Rabbit, the Queen of Hearts, and many other characters. Children can come dressed as their favourite characters if they wish or wear their most Wonderland inspired outfit. The program will run from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. and it is available for ages 5-9.

The Museum will also be open Tuesday afternoon and Friday afternoon from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. during March Break.  Admission by donation.

Community Event - Cobourg/Port Hope - Join us for Hockey Night in Northumberland!

On Saturday, April 14, the NHL Alumni team led by celebrity coach Walter Gretzky, will take centre ice against Northumberland's Hometown Team during 'Hockey Night in Northumberland.' 

Hosted by Northumberland United Way and Habitat for Humanity Northumberland, puck drop is 6 p.m. at the Cobourg Community Centre. All proceeds from the event will support the two organizations and their efforts to support individuals and families across Northumberland County.

CCC doors open at 5:00 p.m. with the puck drop at 6:00 p.m.
