Histoire et science du chocolat

« Theobroma cacao » est le nom scientifique du cacaoyer, l'arbre dont le fruit sert à la fabrication du chocolat. En grec « Theobroma » veut dire « nourriture des dieux ». Un terme qui s'applique parfaitement à ce qui est une source de plaisir inégalé. Cette conférence examine les fascinants aspects du chocolat. Son histoire exotique et les différentes étapes de sa fabrication qui lui donnent cette inimitable saveur et texture. Découvrez les nombreux secrets du chocolat; le lien entre le chocolat et l'amour et comment les M&M ont aidés les Alliés à gagner la 2ième Guerre Mondiale. Apprenez à reconnaître les grands crûs et quelle variété de chocolat est meilleure pour la santé. La conférence se termine par les données scientifiques qui expliquent pourquoi on ne peut pas résister à la tentation et certains deviennent même « chocoholiques ».

Pour nous, elle vulgarise de façon imagée et humoristique les actualités sur l'alimentaire et répond aux grandes questions du type Pourquoi certains vins contiennent du lait, des oeufs et même du poisson?

- Le Boisé des Douze

La réserve naturelle du Boisé-des-Douze est un milieu unique et précieux. La forêt de feuillus qui la compose constitue un habitat propice à l'épanouissement d'un nombre impressionnant d'espèces indigènes.

GREAT community minded volunteers needed for the 2017 Niagara Falls Santa Claus Parade!  Volunteering is a great way to meet new friends, gain wonderful experience, have fun, and give back to our great community!  The Parade is scheduled for Saturday, November 18 at 11:00 am in Downtown Niagara Falls. 

Come to the Volunteer Sign Up & Information Meeting on Wednesday, October 18 at 3:30 pm, upstairs in the MacBain Community Centre, 7150 Montrose Road, Niagara Falls, ON L2H 3N3.

Lots of great positions available such as: Parade Elf, Banner carriers, Parade Marshalls, Parade Security, and Helpers at the Meet & Greet with Santa.

Community Event - Niagara - 2017 Niagara Falls Santa Claus Parade

Don't miss Santa as he winds his way along Victoria Avenue to Niagara Falls City Hall on Queen Street on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 11:00 am. The Parade has been named as one of the TOP 100 Events in Ontario by Festivals and Events Ontario. We'll have fabulous marching bands, beautiful floats, giant inflatables, community groups, amazing high school floats, jugglers, performers, and so much more!

Route: The Parade will travel north along Victoria Avenue, from the corner of Victoria & Armoury, turn right (east) onto Valley Way, and right (east) onto Queen Street, passing City Hall, and ending at Queen and Erie. Enjoy free hot chocolate from the Salvation Army at Queen & Erie in the Rosberg Family Park.  After the Parade, enjoy a visit with Santa & Mrs. Claus at the meet & greet, out front of City Hal and while you're there, enjoy free face painting, free caricatures & great entertainment too!
