It’s Oktoberfest at the Symphony where musicians and listeners share the Pentastar stage as it transforms into Beethoven’s Beer Garden. Get up close and personal with your WSO while Beethoven's 1st symphony is performed in all its glory - inches from your seats. This intimate show comes complete with the WSO’s signature “Beerthoven Ale” (in conjunction with Craft Heads) and a cash bar. All tickets must be bought in advance - no door sales permitted.

100 YEARS AFTER THE REVOLUTION: RUSSIA 2017

Northumberland Learning Connection presents a series of five Thursday evening talks and five Friday morning discussions, 100 YEARS AFTER THE REVOLUTION: RUSSIA 2017, from October 26 to November 24, 2017.

Speakers will come from the US and across Canada, including Dick Pound, Chancellor of McGill University, former President of the World Anti-Doping Agency, who will speak on November 2 on When Sport Defines a Nation: Russian Identity, the Olympics and the Doping Scandal.

Thursday evening talks are at 7.30 pm at the Columbus Community Centre, 232 Spencer Street East, Cobourg, and Friday morning discussions are at 9.00 am at the Port Hope Public Library.

The series includes three special events: a Sunday afternoon panel, Stories of Life in Russia, moderated by Karin Wells; a trip to Roy Thompson Hall for a concert by the Mariinsky Orchestra of St. Petersburg, under Valery Gergiev, and an illustrated talk by James Raffan, Across the Russian Arctic.

PDCF is now accepting grant applications for 2017/2018. (Must be a registered charity to be eligible). The Foundation’s granting program supports a broad range of projects, and focuses on programs targeting youth, seniors, health, education, the environment, arts and culture, sports and recreation and social development. Details about the application process and the application forms can be found on the Foundation’s website at www.pdcf.ca the deadline for submitting an application is October 31, 2017.
