The Peterborough Historical Society is marking Ontario’s Heritage Week with a public lecture by Erik Hanson, Heritage Resources Coordinator for the City of Peterborough. Erik notes that environment issues concern heritage deeply. Cities, and the buildings which comprise them, account for more than 75% of the world’s greenhouse gasses. The good news is that building super-efficient new buildings doesn’t help fix the problem: rehabilitating and repurposing old buildings does. At a time when environmental concerns are in the forefront, it is timely to reflect upon heritage in the age of climate change. All welcome.
