Community Event - Muskoka - Bones & Crows - Reel Alternatives Film Screening

Monday, October 2, 2023
7pm - Algonquin Theatre, Main Street, Huntsville
With special guest, Joyce Jonathan Crone, President & Founder, Hope Arises Project Inc.
Sponsored by: The Great Vine

The screening of this film is timed as closely as possible with, and to honour, the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day which both take place on September 30th to commemorate the painful history and ongoing impact of residential schools on indigenous people in Canada.

An epic account of the life of Cree matriarch Aline Spears that spans generations, Marie Clements’ Bones of Crows is a powerful indictment of the abuse of Indigenous peoples as well as a stirring story of resilience and resistance. This is the feature movie that forms the foundation of the CBC 5-part series. We hope you share this important story together at our big screen presentation.

Fearless in its denunciation of centuries of oppressive policies by Canadian governments and institutions, Bones of Crows is also a memorable paean to the resilience and determination of those who survived the residential schools — and especially those, like Aline, who sought to bring their oppressors’ crimes to light.
