October is celebrated as Islamic Her/History Month in Canada and gives us an opportunity to learn about Islam and honour the rich history and diversity of Canadian Muslims and Muslims living across the globe.

Niagara LIP is pleased to offer a free, virtual workshop-Islam: Its Roots & Wings. The workshop will be facilitated by the Canadian Council of Muslim Women (CCMW) on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, from 10 am to 12 pm. Registration is required, and workshop capacity is limited to 50. About this workshop: The Islamic Herstory Month Workshop allows for participants to get an overview of Islam and to challenge the many myths & misconceptions surrounding Islam. Workshop topics include basics of Islam; alarming surge in Islamophobia; hijab in Islam; gendered Islamophobia and the many contributions of incredible Muslim women.

About this workshop: The Anti-Islamophobia 1O1 virtual workshop seeks to address the realities of Islamophobia and the way in which it operates within Canadian society. The workshop will help participants critically examine the impacts of Islamophobia on the lives of Muslims living in Canada and how it further marginalizes Black and Indigenous Muslims, queer Muslims, and Muslims with disabilities. Participants will learn how to be active allies to counter Islamophobia.

Community Event - Kingston - 2023 Annual Gem Storm Event

The Kingston Lapidary & Mineral Club's 52nd annual gem and mineral show featuring riches of the earth.  The show includes unique jewellery, crystals, minerals and gemstones, plus a children's mine and jewellery workshops, hourly door prizes and much more.  The show is held over three days, October 13 to 14 in the Event Centre, St. Lawrence College, 100 Portsmouth Avenue, Kingston.  Admission is only $5 per person for three days and children under 12 are free.  Fun for the entire familty that you don't want to miss!
