As the saying goes, if you aim for the moon, you will at least hit the stars, but our intention with our Burge & Mozart concert is the moon or bust. Featuring a forward-thinking suite by William Grant Still alongside a brand new violin concerto written for our Concertmaster, Katya Poplyansky, and Mozart’s crowning symphonic achievement, Symphony No. 41 (Jupiter). Big thinking and swinging hard are trademarks of the Kingston Symphony. It doesn’t get any bigger than this!

Come join us for an incredible concert event! We have a powerhouse dual bill concert featuring Madison Violet and Terra Spencer. All proceeds from the evening are going to One Kids Place Children's Treatment Centre. One Kids Place is a non-profit children’s treatment centre that actively strives to provide quality community-based rehabilitation and support services for children and youth (up to the age of 19) and their families living in the Districts of Muskoka, Nipissing and Parry Sound. The evening will also feature a silent auction of items donated by local businesses and artisans with all funds also going to One Kids Place. Doors will open at 6 P.M. for viewing and bidding of the auction items.

Madison Violet is a Canadian Juno-nominated female musical duo, consisting of Lisa MacIsaac and Brenley MacEachern.

The pair, who both have roots in rural Cape Breton, came together musically in the late 1990s. Influenced by their maritime heritage, Brenley and Lisa began creating music together that had roots firmly planted in their past, but with contemporary and modern elements generously overlaid. Categorizing Madison Violet’s music is an impossible task, in that one can hear elements of folk, singer-songwriter, pop, indie, bluegrass, and country flawlessly interwoven throughout.MacIsaac and MacEachern are exceptional story tellers, skilled multi-instrumentalists, and together, perfect harmonists. Their voices soar, perfectly complimenting each other, as they sing lyrics that will both mend and break your heart. The musicians have received dozens of notable accolades for their work, including a JUNO nomination for Roots & Traditional Album of the Year. They have brought home a Canadian Folk Music Award for Best Vocal Group Album of the Year, have reached the top 5 on the Canadian iTunes download charts, amassed over one million streams on Spotify, and have placed on CBC’s Top 20 multiple times throughout their career.

Terra Spencer is an award winning musician who calls Windsor, Nova Scotia home. She'll be making her return to North Bay after her inaugural North Bay show this past October. Bad ideas, VCRs, crumbling factories, terrible therapists, hairy dogs, wrinkled shirts, French fries, questionable tattoos...all are fair game for Nova Scotian funeral director-turned-songwriter Terra Spencer. And the songs are good ones, judging from the stack of awards her albums have received, and from the caliber of her collaborators, which include David Francey, Ben Caplan, and Matt Andersen. Although her butterscotch voice, deft fingerstyle guitar, and gospel-charged piano make her a formidable musician, it's her onstage ease and crackling wit that make each show feel like a knee-to-knee conversation in a room of 5 or 500. Terra was most recently awarded Penguin Eggs Roots Music Canada Critics’ Albums of the Year for 'Sunset (tie with Julian Taylor for ‘Pathways’)

This concert is part of the East Coaster Studios presents series. The concert series was started by Jamie Carruthers, a Science/ Biology teacher in North Bay who has recently ventured into the world of art, pottery and concert promotion.

An evening filled with connection, community and a common vision to support the youth in our region.

Located in Beamsville, Convos is a privately funded Charity & youth centre supported by Conversations Cafe. Here, vulnerable & at-risk youth can participate in skill building programs at no cost to support their physical, emotional and psychosocial development. With a 12 year history in Beamsville, Convos Youth Zone has built trust, resiliency and connection for young people to support the mental health and well-being of youth across Lincoln. With the help of our community partners, faithful supporters & volunteers, we can continue to make a positive impact on youth and give them the future they deserve.

Without early intervention, youth aged 15-24 have an increased risk of experiencing mental illness or substance abuse. Convos is geared to support young people aged 10-18+ through skill building programs and faith discussions encouraging healthy behaviours and a sense of value and belonging. A safe space and intentional programming can improve their emotional intelligence and interpersonal relationships allowing them to thrive and grow into the person they are meant to be.

With a goal of serving more youth in the region, we’re counting on the support from our community and people like you to help support and expand the program experience that Convos Youth Zone provides to vulnerable Youth within the Niagara Region.

Join us for 2025 Economic Outlook on February 20th, 8am at the Double Tree by Hilton to hear from Stephen Tapp, Chief Economist and SVP, Research, Data and Analytics at the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, and Andrew DiCapua - Senior Economist - Canadian Chamber of Commerce. 

The Chamber's Economic Outlook (featuring light breakfast and networking), provides the Kingston business community with valuable insights into current and future economic trends. This highly anticipated event includes a keynote presentation by a nationally respected economist, offering expert analysis on national and global economic conditions. Following the presentation, a panel of economic experts will discuss key data and trends specific to Kingston, delivering actionable insights for local businesses.

 

Stephen Tapp - Chief Economist and SVP, Research, Data and Analytics at the Canadian Chamber of Commerce

Stephen is a key member of the Chamber’s executive leadership team, responsible for the operations of the Business Data Lab as well as economic analysis and research.

Stephen is also the President of the Canadian Association for Business Economics and a member of the Canadian Statistics Advisory Council.

He has over 20 years of experience at many of Canada’s top economic organizations including at: Export Development Canada as the Deputy Chief Economist, the Bank of Canada, Parliamentary Budget Office, Finance Canada, think tanks as well as academia.

Stephen’s research was awarded the Purvis prize for Canadian economic policy. He has a Ph.D. in Economics from Queen’s University.

Andrew DiCapua - Senior Economist, Canadian Chamber of Commerce

Andrew has spent his career as an economic storyteller, distilling signal from the noise. At the Chamber, he’s focused on helping businesses navigate changing economic conditions. Andrew is responsible for developing the Chamber’s economics and forecasting capabilities. He contributes to the Chamber’s economic outlook and regularly conducts economic analysis on developments impacting Canadian business. Andrew has led many engagements to support the business community in shaping policy discussions to drive economic growth.

Before joining the Chamber, Andrew worked at Export Development Canada (EDC), where he forecasted the Canadian economy and Bank of Canada’s monetary policy. He also oversaw the planning of EDC’s economic publications. Andrew’s career began in Ottawa as a trade consultant, where he advised international companies on trade regulations and represented clients in trade disputes before the Canadian International Trade Tribunal.

Andrew holds a Bachelor’s degree (Honours) in Economics from Queen’s University, where he was an active member of the campus community.
