Riverside Drive East will be reduced to one lane between Jefferson Avenue and Patrice Drive for catch basin repair on Monday, May 25 from 8am to 6:30pm. Flag persons will be present.

Effective immediately, the Municipality of Leamington has opened the following outdoor recreational amenities:

• Municipal parks and parking lots
• Rotary Leash Free Dog Park
• The Leamington Skatepark
• Picnic sites, benches and shelters located in parks and recreational areas

The previous provincial restrictions that closed these areas to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 have been lifted as part of the Ontario Government’s first stage of reopening.

Park crews continue to work to set out picnic tables in advance of the weekend and citizens are advised that picnic tables, benches, railings, etc., located in municipal parks and recreational areas are not sanitized. 

Members of the public are asked to maintain physical distancing at all times, limit groups to five people or fewer and carry hand sanitizer.

Public washrooms in parks will remain closed as the Municipality develops sufficient sanitizing and cleaning standards.  

Outdoor playgrounds, play structures and equipment, beaches and splash pads remain closed until later stages of the province’s reopening plan.

As the Ontario Government continues to lift restrictions, the Municipality will require time to prepare amenities for safe use relative to the COVID-19 pandemic. As amenities reopen, the Municipality will continue to share information publicly at leamington.ca/COVID-19 and through our social media channels.

Leamington Council has set the final property tax due dates to July 31, 2020 and October 30, 2020.

Establishing new and later property tax due dates, is in addition to the previously announced financial relief measures by Leamington Council, including:

• Deferring the second instalment for the 2020 Interim Property Taxes until May 15, 2020.

• Waiving all penalties and interest on any overdue balances through to and including June 30, 2020.

• Waiving all returned cheque or electronic payment fees through to and including June 30, 2020.

These financial relief measures reflect the Municipality’s concerns for the community’s well-being and economic conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic. For more information on financial relief measures put in place to assist the community, please visit www.leamington.ca/COVID-19.

Drop off your payment

The Leamington Municipal Building is closed to the public during the COVID-19 pandemic but you can still drop off your property tax payments by placing your cheque or money order into the drop box located at the entrance to the Leamington Municipal Building off Queens Avenue. Please do not place cash in the drop box.   

Be sure to seal your payment and remittance slip in an envelope.

• Telephone banking services;
• Direct deposit at your bank branch; or
• Through your online banking site.

Beginning Wednesday, May 20, the City of Windsor will open dog parks, some outdoor sports amenities, picnic sites, benches and shelters in parks and recreational areas. The previous provincial restrictions that closed these areas to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 have been lifted as part of the government’s first stage of reopening.

Please ensure that you maintain social distancing at all times and limit groups to five or fewer people.

Parks crews have been proactively preparing for these openings and expect to put the finishing touches on today, allowing for each to open on Wednesday by 10 a.m. with one exception: the small dog park at Malden Park will remain closed for ground repairs, which are expected to take 4 to 6 weeks.
