The ALGONQUIN TRAIL RACE - PETAWAWA is the second annual official trail run hosted on the beautiful Algonquin Trail through the heart of the picturesque town of Petawawa. The race is part of the Civic Centre Days celebration weekend for the town of Petawawa. It is hosted by the Coureurs de Bois Running Club of Petawawa and sponsored by Petawawa's own Dog House Brewery and Hyska's Independent Grocers and features a 3.2km Munchkin Run, a 5.4km trail run and a 10km trail run. Race will be timed using chip timing. Registration and bib pick-up opens at 7:30am on Saturday, June 17th at the Kinhut by the Petawawa Civic Centre Mini Putt. Medals will be awarded for the top three finishers for boys and girls in the 3.2km Munchkin Run, the top three finishers both male and female in the 5.4km and 10km runs for both U50 and 50+ categories. The medal ceremony will be held at the Kinhut at 12:00pm. All participants in the 5km and 10km race will receive a Dog House Brewery beer glass and those racers aged 19 and over will receive a complimentary Dog House Brewery beverage at the Kinhut post-race. All three races start and finish on the Algonquin Trail at the intersection of Murphy Road and Petawawa Boulevard across the street from Kelsey's Restaurant. The 3.2km Munchkin Run starts at 9:00am and is for runners U14, it heads west on the Algonquin Trail (crushed limestone surface) and then winds through Kiddyland Park on grass surface before emerging back onto Algonquin Trail where it continues west to Doran Road where runners will then turn around and retrace their steps to the finish line. The 5km trail run starts at 10:00am and is open to all runners with race categories of U50 and 50+. It heads west on the Algonquin Trail until runners cross a bridge over the rushing Petawawa River and then reach Paquette Road. A quick right through some sandy uneven terrain for 25m brings runners to their return journey along a paved path, crossing another bridge over the mighty Petawawa River until they rejoin the Algonquin Trail at Portage Road for the home stretch back to the finish. The 10km trail run begins at the same time as the 5km race at 10:00am and follows the same path until Paquette Road where runners will turn left and follow a gravel road with an uneven surface until they near highway 17 where the trail veers up a small hill to a trail through a wooded area where there will be a turnaround point at the 5km mark. Runners will then proceed back the same way they came, eventually joining the paved path, back over the Petawawa River to the finish line. It is a scenic run through the town of Petawawa suitable for runners of all ages and abilities. Come and join us for our Petawawa Civic Centre Days 2023 celebration.
