Belleville Public Library is excited to connect with the Chatham-Kent Black Historical Society & Black Mecca Museum for a special webinar in recognition of Black History Month.

Learn about Chatham’s historical Black community and Black heritage. Formerly known as “The Forks”, Chatham was a safe haven for fugitive slaves coming across on the Underground Railroad. Though freedom was gained once in Canada, the Black community still faced a difficult time. Segregation and racism were still faced after their freedom, but the Black community overcame and became prosperous in Chatham. Learn about a just few of the hard working, skilled and educated Black men and women who came to Chatham and helped build the town.

The Kingston donation center is open weekly every Tuesday, Wednesday,Thursday and Saturday and we need each and every appointment filled.

Blood and blood products are needed for patients undergoing surgery, cancer treatments, routine medical treatments for various diseases and disorders, and much more.

O-negative blood donors are especially needed because this blood type can be transfused to any patient. In times of emergency or for newborn patients, O-negative blood, the universal blood type, makes a lifesaving difference.

Canadian Blood Services provides essential products and services for patients throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. For this reason, new and existing donors are needed to fill every available appointment.

The winter season is typically a challenging time for blood and plasma collections due to winter hazards and weather impacts. Now, during the pandemic, appointments are required to donate. We encourage donors to book appointments now and over the coming weeks to help maintain an adequate level of blood and blood products for patients in Canada.  

Every donation appointment this winter needs to be filled. Without the ongoing dedication of blood and plasma donors, patients in Canada wouldn’t have access to lifesaving care where and when they need it.
