It’s been a while, but the annual Bookfest is back and more flexible than ever! During these uncertain times, we want everyone to know that Literary Arts Windsor holds safety as our highest priority. This year the Festival is completely online and tickets are being sold through EventBrite. Safety regulations have been unpredictable in the last year, but we could not let our arts community down. We are offering variable ticket prices – valid for any or all presentations from October 14th – 17th, providing an opportunity to pay what you are able, based on your current circumstances. We ask you to consider how many people in your household will be watching the presentations with you, and how much you would normally spend to attend a live festival. We thank you for your kind support of our volunteer-run festival and our artists.
A one-time fee gets you into ALL of the presentations for the Festival weekend, and with access for a week afterwards.
Featured authors include artists like Catherine Fogarty, Will Toffan, Jesse Donaldson, and Erika Dyck in our Thrillers – True Crime segment. Check out the Black History Celebration with Cheryl Thompson, Rochelle Riley, and Funke Aladajebi. Looking for something a little more north of Ontario? How about À la croisée des chemins racontés with Biz Frechette, Naïma Oukherfellah, and Gabriel Osson. Don’t miss our Spotlight on Indigenous Authors with Louise Bernice Halfe – Sky Dancer, Chief Stacey Laforme, and G.A. Grisenthwaite.
All of these great authors and more. You just have to go to https://www.literaryartswindsor.ca/register/
BELLEVILLE – This Thursday, Sept. 30 is Orange Shirt Day and the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
On this day, we honour all those whose lives were impacted by the residential school system – lost children, survivors, their families and communities. We reflect on the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of these schools as we work towards reconciliation.
Councillor Sean Kelly and the City’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee have consulted with members of our Indigenous community including Chief R. Don Maracle of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte, local musicians, cultural advisors, educators and school boards, to design a cultural and educational program for a small, respectful recognition event to be held on Sept. 30.
The event will take place on the Bernice Parrott Stage in George Zegouras Market Square behind City Hall beginning at noon on the event day, and will include stories, music and Indigenous artisan demonstrations.
Residents are asked to wear orange in support of Orange Shirt Day. Those planning to attend the recognition event are asked to practise COVID-19 safety regulations including wearing a mask and practising physical distancing at all times.
