With so much surrounding Covid-19 and cases relating to the pandemic, it is imperative that individuals continue to manage their health.

A map has been designed to indicate where area residents can still receive patient care including but not limited to doctor/NP offices, walk-in-clinics, diagnostic imaging (x-rays, etc) and lab blood draw clinics.  Developed by Essex County Medical Society President, Dr. Jennifer Bondy, and colleagues, the map can be found at https://ecms.org/covid-19-updates-public/

“People are still going to need to seek care for issues other than COVID-19", explains Dr. Bondy, “They will require medical attention and many providers have modified their hours or the way they’re providing care”.

This map is a one-stop-shop letting people know where they can go to get the care that they need.

Providers across Windsor Essex are coming together to streamline the delivery of care.

Town of Essex By-law Officers are working with the Ontario Provincial Police to conduct regular patrols to ensure members of the public follow the provincial orders made under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act.

The emergency orders prohibit organized public events and social gatherings of more than five, as well as restrict the use of recreational amenities in public spaces. The orders also call for the closure of all non-essential businesses.

“We expect and hope that all of our residents take these orders seriously to help stop the spread of the virus in our community,” said Mayor Larry Snively. “However, it is clear that some are not getting the message to stay home, if you can, and avoid gathering. For these cases, enforcement is the next step to ensure the health and safety of everyone in our community.”

During regular business hours, the Town’s by-law enforcement team will conduct regular patrols and follow up on complaints from the public. When enforcing the orders, individuals may be required to provide their name, date of birth, and address. Failure to comply with an emergency order can carry fines for individuals between $750 to $100,000, and up to one year imprisonment. The Burlington Fire Department has lifted the open-air burning ban issued on April 13, 2020. This change is effective immediately.

Residents that live in rural designated burning areas, with open-air burning permits, can resume open-air burning if necessary. Those with permits are reminded to follow the bylaw and conditions of their permit.

Unnecessary burning and recreational fires should be avoided and urban residents are reminded that open-air burning in urban areas of Burlington is never allowed. The Burlington Fire Department will issue fines to those with open-air fires in urban Burlington.

As part of the COVID-19 response, the burn ban was implemented as a preventative measure to make sure that Fire Department resources were available when and where needed most. Additionally, the Fire Department was trying to limit non-emergency interactions with residents and respect physical distancing requirements.

The Burlington Fire Department will continue to monitor and assess the affect on resources and provide updates on city burning restrictions.

Emergency orders continue to be in place to address the COVID-19 outbreak include the prohibiting of organized public events and social gatherings of more than five people. Failing to comply with any of the emergency orders is an offence under the Emergency Management and Civil Protections Act and may result in fines. 

The best thing residents can do to protect themselves and the community, is stay home.

The City of Burlington’s by-law states that while on public property, no person shall stand less than a 2 metre
distance to any other person that does not reside with them in a single household or permit a child under the
age of 16 to stand less than a 2 metre distance from any other person that does not reside with them in a single
household. Upon conviction of an offence under this by-law, a person would be liable for a minimum fine of
$500 and a maximum fine of $100,000. The by-law is expected to be in effect through the duration of
Burlington’s State of Emergency. More information can be found on burlington.ca.

City Council unanimously approved relief of penalty and interest for property taxes in the months of April and May 2020 and relief of the administration charge for any
returned payments during that time.

The temporary property tax relief will allow businesses and homeowners to make their April 21 installment by June 30 without incurring late
payment charges.

This temporary relief will be reviewed by staff and council on an ongoing basis until the State of Emergency related to COVID-19 is
lifted.

New Hotline to Report Emergency Order Violations

The Halton Regional Police Service has established a COVID-19 Hotline to report violations of provincial emergency orders.

Municipal enforcement officers will be dispatched by police for reports of:

• the continued operation of a non-essential business
• public establishments or locations that continue to open
• social gatherings of more than 5 people
• use of outdoor recreational amenities or parks
