In honour of Science Literacy Week (September 16 to 22) the KFPL Live monthly speakers' series will host a presentation on Apollo 11: The Quest for the Moon by amateur astronomer Frank Hitchens. Many will remember his 2018 presentation Target Earth, on asteroid impacts, and his 2017 talk Are We Alone?, on the search for extraterrestrial life.
Rarely in history has humanity embarked upon an enterprise as audacious and adventurous as sending the first of our own kind to explore another world. The Apollo 11 mission of 1969 and the people who made it happen represent what is arguably history's greatest achievement in science and engineering. Those who watched Neil Armstrong's "one small step" from the Eagle to the moon's surface 50 years ago remember not just the news coverage but also sharing the experience in real time with the rest of the world.
Please join us at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, at our Isabel Turner branch to hear Frank share stories behind Apollo 11 and the first lunar landing.
This presentation is open to adults and teens. There is no admission charge, but seating is limited. To avoid disappointment, please register in advance at calendar.kfpl.ca or by phone at (613) 549-8888 as of 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 7.
