The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board (NPSC) is pleased to announce and invite members of the community to participate in its Charity Mixed Community Volleyball Tournament, marking the third tournament as part of our semi-annual tradition!
The tournament will take place on Friday, March 21 and Saturday, March 22, 2025, with games scheduled to be played in the gymnasiums at St. Joseph-Scollard Hall and Mother St. Bride schools. The tournament will have a maximum of 32 teams and registration is $200 per team. Players registered must be 18 years of age or older to participate, or 16+ with parent/guardian signature on waiver. Registration is quickly filling up, but there are still spaces available!
All proceeds from the event will go towards supporting The Gathering Place North Bay. The Gathering Place has been open for 21 years and serves a diverse group of people, including those on disability, seniors, veterans, families, youth and anyone in need. Serving 100 meals daily, it is more than just a meal program, it’s a warm, welcoming space where individuals can find companionship and socialization.
With the rising costs of food, the demand for more accessible support for those in need in our community remain as a priority for NPSC to partner with The Gathering Place. On November 27, NPSC was proud to donate $2,521 to them, raised during the first tournament of the 2024-2025 school year. To date, NPSC has contributed a total of $4,175 through these tournaments in support of The Gathering Place.
“Food insecurity is growing in our community. The Gathering Place helps not just the homeless but any family or member of the community in need. They need the support of the community to keep their doors open,” says Michelle Ricco, Manager of Health and Safety at NPSC and tournament co-organizer. “We wanted to make sure that we were supporting members of our local community in a meaningful way.” added Bojan Markovic, Facilities Manager at NPSC and tournament co-organizer.
“We are pleased to collaborate with The Gathering Place to support those in need in our community. The Charity Mixed Volleyball tournaments held over the past year have been an excellent way to bring our community together in an active way to support such an important cause. We extend appreciation to our NPSC staff for their leadership in this initiative as well as the staff of The Gathering Place and all community team participants. Together, we are fostering strong communities who promote and support the dignity of the human person.” shares NPSC Director of Education, Paula Mann.
To register, for more information, or for inquiries regarding participation in the tournament, please contact Michelle Ricco (riccom@npsc.ca), Tournament Co-Organizer and Manager of Health and Safety at NPSC.
The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board serves approximately 3,100 students in 11 elementary schools across North Bay, West Nipissing, Mattawa, Powassan and Callander, St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School, and St. Joseph Adult Education campus, in North Bay.
We are pleased to announce that after a brief hiatus from our Annual Charity BBQs (paused due to Covid), we will be reverting back from the Charity Raffles to our larger events. On June 7th, 2025, we will host our 11th Annual Charity BBQ @ Dr. Surya & Associates. We are firm believers of giving back to our communities and it is our mission to give back as much as possible this year. In 2025, we will host a larger event including a BBQ, bouncy castle, live music, games, raffle with prizes galore. We have also invited a local Radio station and our Burlington City Mayor to the event.
This year we will be supporting 3 Charities with this event; Brain Cancer Canada (Charity # 80359 4985 RR001), Epilepsy Canada (Charity # 13117 6042 RR0001) and The Carpenter House (Charity # 86312 1125 RR0001). These are 3 charities close to our hearts.
