Effective Wednesday July 25, 2018 and continuing until Friday July 27, 2018 from approximately 7:00am to 12:00 noon, significant traffic delays can be expected on Pembroke Street West, between Wilfred Street and Reynolds Avenue, as a result of road repairs.

Public Notices/Announcements - Windsor/Leamington - Year 10 - Terry Fox Giant Used Book Sale

Submitted by cdanby on
1532577600 1532663940

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Annual Terry Fox Giant Used Book Sale. Conceived initially as a secondary fundraiser for the Windsor Terry Fox Run, with a goal of collecting 1,000 gently used books and raising $1,000, the book sale was gifted an empty store at Windsor Crossing and the first book sale was a hit. With over 20,000 books donated, and over $13,000 raised that first year, book sale organizer Marian Drouillard knew she had a winner!

The sale was offered vacant units at Windsor Crossing for another 3 years, and the fundraiser continued to be a success for the Windsor Terry Fox Run until Windsor’s last Run in 2011; in 2011 Marian Drouillard organized the last Windsor Terry Fox Run after she joined the Tecumseh Terry Fox Run Committee but kept the book sale in Windsor in the late spring of 2012.   In 2013, the book sale joined forces with the Tecumseh Terry Fox Run, and the book sale found homes in various vacant stores in 2 different Tecumseh plazas. Between the St. Clair Shores Shopping Centre and the St. Clair Beach Shopping Plaza, the book sale continued to flourish and after year 9 in 2017, a total of $129,200 was raised for the Terry Fox Foundation for Cancer Research!

As the Annual Terry Fox Giant Used Book Sale prepares for year 10, organizer Marian Drouillard has a lofty goal in mind; she hopes this year to raise a combined 10-year total of $150,000. An empty store was offered by the Valente Group at the St. Clair Shores Shopping Plaza and with just over 7000 sq. ft, the store has lots of room to put on a great 10th year anniversary book sale. Housed in the original vacant Dollarama store (they moved next door) in the plaza along Amy Croft just east of Manning Road, the unit will also be headquarters to the Tecumseh Terry Fox Run, were it will feature TF Run merchandise for the local Run and offer support for participants wishing to learn more about Canadian icon Terry Fox.
