This year the Sun Parlour Chorus is sponsoring a Community Christmas Choir which will be performing at Roseland-Trinity United Church (3919 Howard Ave, Windsor) on Sunday December 10 at 6:30 pm. If you are a singer who would like to get into the Christmas spirit, come join us as we sing traditional Christmas Carols and classic yuletide favorites.

Rehearsals will be held on Monday evenings November 20, 27 and December 4 at the Masonic Hall, 30 Laird St. Essex, from 7:30 to 8:30. All songs are arranged in 4-part acappella harmony. Music provided. Don’t worry if you can’t sing harmony, just come out and sing the melody; every voice counts. We are excited to be hosting this unique holiday event and hope that you can join us. Gateway Theatre Guild is excited to announce auditions for Other Desert Cities written by John Robin Baitz and directed by Scott Fitzgerald.

Other Desert Cites tells the story of Brooke Wyeth who returns home to Palm Springs after a six-year absence to celebrate Christmas with her parents, her brother, and her aunt. Brooke announces that she is about to publish a memoir dredging up a pivotal and tragic event in the family's history—a wound they don't want reopened. In effect, she draws a line in the sand and dares them all to cross it.

Characters:

Lyman Wyeth: (male- late 50s to early 70s) patriarch of the family. A Hollywood “B” actor with some celebrity and political influence. Conservative with a sense of humor about himself and a deep love and care for his adult children.

Polly Wyeth: (female- mid-50s to late 60s) Lyman’s wife. She is graceful and funny and doesn’t suffer fools gladly. She is deeply devoted to the preservation of family and all it stands for, and even more, the health of her husband.

Brooke Wyeth: (female- mid-30s to early 40s) Lyman and Polly’s adult daughter. A writer who is now a native New Yorker although born in California. She thrives on solitude, coffee shops, intelligent conversation, and being understood. She loves her family but also her independence.

Trip Wyeth: (male- late 20s to mid-30s) Brooke’s brother. A TV producer – easy going, takes life as it comes, loves being around family and, oddly, all its traditions. Devoted to his older sister and her health.

Silda Grauman: (female- late 50s to early 70s) Polly’s sister, a woman of indeterminate age. A former TV writer who is definitely from the more Bohemian gene in the family. Impulsive, creative, reckless, fragile, funny – she’d rather be living alone but is dependent upon Polly and Lyman for support entirely.
