Local Love in a Global Crisis Federal Government Seniors
Host: Steve Pratt, CEO United Way of Chatham-Kent • Discussing the Government of Canada’s efforts to help provide immediate essential services to vulnerable seniors impacted by COVID-19 (Specifically, the $9 million) • How was fund allocation determined (determined using Statistics Canada data) • What is New Horizons for Seniors Program at Employment and Social Development Canada • It is not possible to meet all needs with this funding. The purpose of these funds is to provide some immediate support in response to a gap or need for seniors. We have been working with front line agencies, and local knowledge to identify and prioritize which gap(s)/need(s) to respond to immediately. • We are bound by our charitable registration on who we can fund. These funds can be used to increase immediate supports for seniors, through Qualified Donees. (Defined by the Canada Revenue Agency) • What is our timeline to flow these funds.
