John Howitt, Director of Education LKDSB

Dresden Shines
The Dresden community is coming together to make the town brighter than ever. Dresden Shines is a collaboration of several community groups and organizations that will be decorating homes and businesses with lights and hosting a series of safe, family-friendly activities throughout the holiday season. Organizers say with large events like the Dresden Christmas Night Market placed on hold during the pandemic, volunteers were motivated to bring the community together with an ambitious goal to decorate as many buildings as possible. Co-organizer Stuart Kiar says the idea came to him after the May 16th Miracle. More information will be available on Facebook, Instagram (@DresdenShines), and on www.dresden.ca. Anyone interested in volunteering or sponsoring the event can e-mail the organizing team at: DresdenShines@dresden.ca.

Barnettis Arcade
With titles ranging from Pac-Man to NBA Jam, there is something for everyone to bring out the kid in you. Zach Trinetti opened up Barnetti’s at 425 St. Clair St. 62 machines available to play. He said they include games from the ‘80s up to the 2000s. We had a chance to catch up with Zach shortly after the grand opening to ask him how things went.
Build The Barrier moves forward
A movement to get concrete barriers installed on the 401 from Tilbury to London is gaining momentum. More than 100 Chatham-Kent residents attended a town hall-style meeting last night in Chatham hosted by MPP Rick Nicholls and the Build the Barrier group. Group member Alysson Storey says this issue affects everyone and they have worked so hard to get here. Jeff Yurek, MPP for Elgin-Middlesex-London announced a $67.8 million plan to widen the highway from four lanes to six, and install concrete median barriers between Tilbury and Merlin Road.
Filming In CK
Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff has joined mayors of Stratford, Windsor, London, Sarnia and St. Thomas in calling for the provincial government to provide tax incentives to help promote the film and television industry in this part of the province. We spoke with Rob Bellamy founder of the CK international film festival and Founder of JX3 Media, and Ben Srokosz, two time winner of the CK international film festival to get their thoughts on the new support for the film industry in CK.
Deb Crawford, Director of Education St-Clair Catholic District School Board
We have a great chat with Deb Crawford from the SCCDSB about her thoughts on how teachers, admin, students and parents are adapting to the new guidelines for school in these interesting times.
