2025 business excellence awards
The Burlington chamber of commerce hosted the 2025 business excellence awards last week at the Burlington convention centre, where they announced the winners, but also celebrated all the very deserving nominees. Nikki Wesley reports:
HRPS Vehicle Blitz
In an effort to remove unsafe commercial vehicles from the road, an inspection blitz took place across Halton last week. It was part of a north American wide effort to make sure our roads are safe. The annual initiative ensures police check the mechanical fitness of all the the trucks that are pulled over... and also, the fitness of the drivers in terms of whether they are too tired to be on the road. Milton Mayor Gord Krantz Talks About Milton Installing Speed Cushions
After years of trying to slow down drivers on Martin street, the town of Milton is proposing a more assertive measure: installing speed cushions. Despite previous efforts -- including radar-equipped speed boards, targeted police enforcement, community safety zones and 'please slow down' lawn signs -- speeding remains a concern on the two-lane collector road, which has a posted speed limit of 50 km/h. A section near a school, drops to 40 km/h during specific times. Earlier this week, Jason Agnew asked Milton Mayor Gord Krantz if he thinks the speed cushions will be put in place.

The Eddies Film Festival 2025
The first Eddies Film Festival was held in 2002 in recognition of student filmmakers here in Halton. This past Monday night, the tradition continued with awards and prize money being doled out for technical and creative achievements. Jessica Kaitting reports.
