A collective of artists from the Burlington Fine Art's Association have a new show on now at the Art Gallery of Burlington. They hosted a meet the artist event on the weekend and Nikki Wesley went to find out more.
Minister of Transport & Internal Trade Anita Anand Talks Tariffs
In January of this year the Minister of Transport and Internal Trade Anita Anand made a dual announcement. She declared she would not toss her name into the hat to be the potential leader of the Federal Liberal Party, and also surprisingly declared she would not run in Oakville in the next election. Fast forward two-months and last Wednesday reports surfaced that the Oakville MP had changed her mind, and will indeed return for the upcoming election. Jason Agnew had the chance to speak to Minister Anand about a series of tariff and trade related topics, but started the conversation by asking about her change in mindset between January and now.
Milton Special Olympics Public Relations Coordinator Laura Lamers on the Program's Expansion
Yesterday, Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward and Milton MP Adam Van Koeverden came together at Burlington City Hall with a variety of participants to raise a flag to promote awareness of the Special Olympics. In Milton, the Special Olympics programming began in 1998 with one sport. They've since expanded to 9 different sports where athlete's get together at least once a week to train and play in preparation for tournaments. This year, the organization plans to expand with a new fundamentals program. Jason Agnew spoke with Lauren Lamers, the public relations coordinator for the Milton Special Olympics organization about the expansion to include a wider age group.
The Sultan's of String: Walking Through the Fire
The Sultan's of String, including Burlington artist hall of fame 2024 inductee Chris Mckhool, have been working on a project with Indigenous Canadians for the last two years. This Friday you can check out their visual album at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre. Nikki Wesley explains how this is a "rock-u-mentary" like no other.
Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward on the Latest Tariffs on Canada
Tariffs ... they're here... President Trump's 25% up-charge and Canada's response are the top stories on any news cast and in any social conversation for that matter. At a local level earlier today, Jason Agnew chatted with Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward who over the past two-weeks established a tariff task force, and a buy Canadian website, but now that the tariffs are here, Jason asked the Burlington Mayor if she was surprised they actually came to be.

The development and potential over-development of Oakville's midtown has been a hot topic at town council, and a recent Toronto Star article delves into the provincial government now taking the reigns, and forcing their will and condo towers on the town of Oakville. Pivot Point Family Services Canada Grand Opening
Parents of autistic children, and those with other neurodivergence's, have a new option for care in Milton. Pivot Point has been offering day programs for a couple of months, but held its grand opening more recently. While some of the parents with adult children in their programs are seeing positive changes, the service is not government-funded through the healthcare system, which can create financial challenges. Jason Trout reports.
