Lincoln, ON – (December 16, 2024) – The Town of Lincoln is committed to protecting our community's infrastructure and environment by raising awareness about the proper disposal of fats, oils, and grease (FOG). Improper disposal of FOG can lead to significant issues, including clogged pipes, increased maintenance costs, and environmental harm.
What is FOG?
FOG refers to the fats, oils, and grease generated during cooking. Common sources include frying oils, butter, margarine, and the residue left behind from meats and dairy products. While these materials may appear harmless, they solidify when cooled and can create blockages in your pipes and the Town's sewer system, leading to costly and preventable damage.
Why Proper Disposal Matters:
When FOG is poured down the drain, it accumulates over time, leading to the formation of large blockages. These obstructions can:
Cause sewer backups into homes and businesses.
Increase the cost of maintenance and repairs for both residents and the municipality.
Harm the local environment by contributing to untreated wastewater discharge.
How to Dispose of FOG Safely:
To prevent these issues, follow these simple steps:
Allow fats, oils, and grease to cool and harden before disposal.
After FOG has cooled and hardened, place it in a paper towel or FOG collection cup for disposal in your green bin.
Never pour FOG down the drain or toilet.
FREE FOG Cups for Residents:
To make disposal easy, the Town of Lincoln provides free FOG collection cups to all residents. These cups are available at the following locations:

Fleming Centre: 5020 Serena Dr., Beamsville
Jordan Lions Arena: 2789 Fourth Ave., Jordan
Lincoln Pelham Public Library | Fleming Branch: 5020 Serena Drive, Beamsville
Lincoln Pelham Public Library | Rittenhouse Branch: 4080 John Charles Blvd, Vineland
Lincoln Museum and Cultural Centre: 3800 Main St., Jordan
Campden General Store: 4205 Fly Rd., Campden
FOG disposal cups are small, biodegradable cups provided to residents to collect and dispose of fats, oils, and greases. Once your FOG cup is full, simply place it in your Green Bin for collection.
Please note: The Town will make every effort to maintain an adequate supply of FOG cups; however, delivery times may vary, potentially resulting in temporary stock shortages.
By disposing of FOG properly, we can protect our community’s pipes and infrastructure, avoid costly repairs, and ensure a clean environment for future generations.
