Community Event - Smiths Falls/Perth/North Grenville - March is Epilepsy Awareness Month
March is Epilepsy Awareness Month, culminating with Purple Day on March 26th. The goal of Epilepsy Awareness Month for Epilepsy South Eastern Ontario is to raise awareness of epilepsy and seizure disorders as a way to reduce the stigma surrounding epilepsy by improving community understanding and awareness of the disorder. In doing so, we hope to spread knowledge of seizure first aid and the types of seizures that individuals may experience. In order for our message to be heard, we are seeking to raise awareness throughout South Eastern Ontario by spreading the message that epilepsy and seizures aren’t mutually exclusive. By helping us spread this, we will be able to create the awareness that we are looking to raise thus encouraging individuals to discuss, learn and support those affected by the disorder. Did you know that approximately 1 in 100 people in Canada are living with epilepsy? Did you know that 1 in 10 people will experience a seizure in their lifetime? Epilepsy is more common than we think, which is why it is critical to have the community aware of its existence and how it impacts everyone that is diagnosed with the disorder. Epilepsy South Eastern Ontario is a non-profit organization committed to improving the lives of the over 4,000 people affected by epilepsy in South Eastern Ontario. We provide services such as support sessions, both in a group setting and on a one-to-one level and a dedicated transportation service to the community. We aim to educate, advocate and raise awareness for the individuals and families affected by epilepsy. If you have any questions or wish to learn more about Epilepsy South Eastern and how we help the over 4000 people in South Eastern Ontario with Epilepsy, please do not hesitate to contact Emelia Leslie at 613-542-6222 or admin@epilepsyresource.org
