Third Age Nipissing, a volunteer organization dedicated to providing intellectually stimulating lectures for mature learners living in North Bay and neighbouring communities, is presenting The Love of Music lecture series on May 9, 16 and 23. The lectures will take place at the Holiday Inn Express, 1325 Seymour St, North Bay, from 1:30p.m. to 3:30p.m.  Refreshments will be served.  Tickets are $15 per single lecture or $30 for a three lecture package.  Tickets are available at Gulliver’s Quality Books and Toys, 157 Main St. W. and Long & McQuade, 245 Lakeshore Drive. In Lecture 2, The Love of Music on May 16, violist Dr. Jamie Arrowsmith will reflect on the many ways in which music can impact one's life and speak to how changes in musical trajectory can only strengthen one's love of music.

Lecture 1, The Enjoyment of Listening, on May 9 will cover the essentials of how to listen to music with a knowledgeable ear. Two accomplished musicians Calvin Cheng (violin) and Geoff Sinclair (french horn) will share their personal perspectives through discussion and demonstration.

This popular event showcasing the beauty of traditional Irish dance returns to the Imperial Theatre for the 19th year Saturday May 5 at 7pm.  The School’s dancers will perform intricate hard and soft shoe steps sharing the stage with Celtic fiddlers, pipers, Highland dancers and singers.  Renowned Celtic-fusion band Rant Maggie Rant returns again this year as special guest.

Community Event - Niagara - 10th Annual Pug PAWty Supports Pugalug Pug Rescue

Curly tails will be wagging at the 10th Annual Niagara Pugalug Spring fundraising event being held at the Merritton Community Centre on Sunday, May 27th, 2018. All pug enthusiasts and their pugs are welcome! Doors will be open from 1:00 to 3:00 pm and admission is $10.00 per person or $5.00 for children 12 and under. This is an off-leash event. Pugs and other small, friendly, well-socialized dogs are welcome!

This year’s event celebrates the 10th year that the Niagara group has support pug rescue and will include a vendor alley, door and raffle prizes, nail clipping service, a photo booth, bake sale, refreshments and some good old fashioned puggy play! All proceeds from this event will be donated to Pugalug Pug Rescue.

Since 2008, the Niagara Pugalug organization has held a variety of events to support Pugalug Pug Rescue – a charitable organization devoted to helping rescued pugs by providing medical care, loving attention, comfort, food, companionship, and a FURever home.

The Fort Town Concert Association will close it’s 35th season & usher in spring a recital featuring soprano Jennifer Taverner and pianist Andrea Van Pelt. Friday May 4 at 7:30pm.

The programme will include a selection of songs for spring ranging from With verdure clad from Haydn’s Creation and Strauss’ Ständchen to Sondheim’s Green Finch & Linnet Bird and Jerome Kern’s All the things you are.
