#WheretoGetCareMuskoka is an excellent and regularly updated resource for information about different options for care in Muskoka.  The #WheretoGetCareMuskoka webpage features information about when you should go to the Emergency Department and when a visit to your primary care provider is more appropriate.

With Emergency Department visits doubling in the summer months at Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare, wait times can be long. Visit www.mahc.ca/wheretogetcareMuskoka/ to educate yourself about community-based alternatives to the Emergency Department. Information is provided for people who have a local doctor and outlines primary care options for those who do not.  Resources are also provided about prescription renewal, mental health and addictions.

“When accidents happen, your local Emergency Departments are here for you,” says Dr. John Simpson, Director & Chief of Emergency Medicine.  “We also know that how people access care has changed dramatically since the pandemic, and more than ever, different mental wellness services have come online, and virtual care is providing greater options.  We can all play a role in reducing pressures on Emergency Departments by accessing the right care in the right place at the right time by the right provider.”

Being informed about options for non-emergency care in Muskoka and knowing when it’s appropriate to go to the Emergency Department and when to access primary care or other community-based supports is one way the community can support their local hospital.

“Doing it the hard way for 20 years,” is a badge Elliott BROOD wear with honour. Two decades on, work, life and love have taken the trio in many directions, away from their hometowns and headfirst into an ongoing musical journey through distance and time. Now, after being members of this band for nearly half of their lives, Elliott BROOD is never more at home than in the wash of distorted, evocative strings and stomps that make their signature alt country sound.

Elliott BROOD appeared on the cover of Exclaim Magazine in 2008 as the new ambassadors of a roots, folk rock and alt country wave that flourished in Toronto’s early aughts. Elliott BROOD’s arrival came with a level of buzz that launched them directly into the heart of a vibrant Toronto scene that centered at label Six Shooter Records, where they have returned to release their newest music. Their live show, a maelstrom of frenetic energy and fuzz, has brought them back and forth across continents countless times on bills The Sadies, Wilco, The Black Crowes, and many more. Their albums, meticulously crafted, detail-packed collections have brought some of Canada’s highest musical honours and awards, including an early Polaris Music Prize Short List and a JUNO Award.

In their twenty years, the band has remained fiercely loyal to their mysterious namesake. The stylized, imaginary character has guided the band’s travels over mountains and meadows, and through the more harrowing sides of history. Elliott BROOD has grown into a vessel for the trio’s shared history too, with new songs finding connection and communion in themes that hit much closer to home. With smile lines and guitar fingers long hardened with callouses, Elliott BROOD has been doing it the hard way, but making it sound easy.

Classic Lightfoot Live stands as Canada’s premier tribute to the legendary folk rocker, Gordon Lightfoot. Led by the remarkable ensemble of vocalist and guitarist John Stinson, music director and multi-instrumentalist Bob Doidge (Gord’s record producer), bassist Steve Eyers (Gord’s nephew),lead guitarist Eric Kidd (Red Shea trained), this show whisks you down a nostalgic journey through Lightfoot’s iconic music.

Gordon Lightfoot’s impact on music is immeasurable; he’s hailed as Canada’s greatest songwriter, shaping the folk-pop sounds of the ‘60s and ‘70s. His name is synonymous with timeless tales of trains, shipwrecks, rivers, highways, love, and solitude. His repertoire, including classics like “For Lovin’ Me,” “Early Morning Rain,” and “Ribbon of Darkness,” have left an indelible mark on the world.

Classic Lightfoot Live was founded in 2012 by lead vocalist, John Stinson, a long time Ontario musician. John has been entertaining audiences around Ontario for over 30 years. He has been widely praised for his uncanny sonic resemblance to Gord, and his attention to replicating Gord’s original studio recordings. John was mentored to play Gordon Lightfoot music by the legendary Lightfoot lead guitarist, Red Shea.

Others can tell, even if they don’t know how or why John’s renditions come off as being so faithful. I’ve been told before, and many did that night, they can’t believe how well John sings Gord’s tunes.” – John Swartz, SunOnlineMedia.ca, Nov 2023

Amazing talent, unbelievably realistic. Gave me goosebumps listening to them.” – Social media post.
