The past few seasons have seen the Kingston Symphony embrace the rich medium of video games, putting on concerts that have featured music from franchises like Super Mario Bros., the Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy, and Journey, among others. On Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 7:30 p.m. at Kingston Grand Theatre, we will attempt to take things up a notch. Experience what we are convinced is a first-of-its-kind concert concept: an evening devoted entirely to the showcasing of world-class video game speedrunners completing the popular Cuphead and Celeste titles in record time. All of the amazing music from these games will be performed by your Kingston Symphony, live on stage, in sync with the gameplay!

With iconic and genre-defining scores by Canadian composers, Kristofer Maddigan and Lena Raine, Cuphead and Celeste are beloved games and this promises to be a video game concert which is absolutely a cut above the rest. Blazing fast gaming enhanced with a live orchestra - makes for a goosebump-inducing experience!

With winter waning and the promise of spring just around the corner, the Peterborough Symphony Orchestra welcomes everyone to our “Spring Sunrise” concert on Saturday, March 29th. What better way to welcome spring but to revel in Beethoven’s “Pastorale” symphony? It is a journey in music, starting with a walk in the country, some time spent by the brook, a village dance, a huge storm, and then general rejoicing with the return of the sun. In addition to this main work, the PSO will also perform the exciting concert opener, “Chase the Sun,” by Métis composer T. Patrick Carrabré, which describes a frenetic car ride towards the west. Then, in her second appearance as guest soloist with the PSO, Erika Raum will perform Prokofiev’s beautiful and soaring First Violin Concerto. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Arrive 45 minutes early and you will be treated to the “Meet the Maestro” informative and entertaining pre-concert talk that will give you a preview of the music you will hear. The concert takes place at Showplace Performance Centre. To learn more about the concert or to check out the Maestro’s suggested playlist to whet your appetite, visit https://thepso.org/spring-sunrise. Student tickets are only $12. Regular single ticket prices range from $33 - $55 and are available through the Showplace box office. More information is available at www.thepso.org. Contact the PSO at 705-742-1992.
