On Sunday May 7, the Battle of the Atlantic Memorial Service will start at 1:00 pm at Navy Hall, NOTL. It will include a parade and colour guard, music by the Niagara Falls Concert Band, gun crew and more. All are welcome. The event is held in partnership with Parks Canada and includes historic artifacts and displays on the Battle of the Atlantic, Navy Hall and Fort George, as well as food and beverages.

Five years, eight months and five days was the duration of the longest, largest and most complex battle of the Second World War, commonly known as “The Battle of the Atlantic.” Canada lost 2,000 sailors serving in the Royal Canadian Navy, 1,600 merchant mariners, and 752 airmen from the Royal Canadian Air Force. Many of these brave souls and commercial ships originated from the Niagara Region.

This event is being organized by the Royal Canadian Naval Association-Niagara Region.

About Us: The RCNA Niagara is one of 19 active chapters across Canada. It is a community organization that supports the Canadian Navy, both active and reserve, and Cadet organizations connected with the Canadian Armed Forces. Through community awareness and fundraising efforts, our work perpetuates the memory and deeds of those who gave their lives serving in our military forces.

Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Steven Lee Olsen’s path to mainstream success has been a lengthy yet admirable and rewarding journey. Born and raised in a suburb of Toronto, Olsen moved to Nashville in 2004 to pursue his dreams of being a songwriter. He spent years in Music City working on his songwriting skills by drawing upon his R&B, soul, country and pop influences, eventually breaking into the upper echelons of Nashville songwriters. Olsen’s work has been recorded by some of Country music’s most significant artists like Keith Urban, Garth Brooks, Rascal Flatts, Billy Currington, The Judds, Dallas Smith and many others. He has notched impressive accolades, including two No.1 hits in the US with his Grammy-nominated, double-platinum certified song “Blue Ain’t Your Color” performed by Keith Urban and “More Girls Like You” performed by Kip Moore. He also went No.1 in Canada with co-writing credits on the platinum hit “Drop,” performed by Dallas Smith.

As part of the celebrations surrounding May is Museum Month, Hutchison House Museum will be hosting a Silent Auction with a variety of donated items to raise money for a new Sir Sandford Fleming Exhibit to replace the Sandford Fleming Room. The new redesign will help with traffic flow in the museum and allow us to tell a large story for Fleming, exploring different themes and allowing us to display more permanently some of the great original Fleming artefacts that can be found in the collection. Auction items range from Original Framed Artwork, signed or rare books, Venetian glass, memorabilia and more! Auction items will be on display in the Harvey Connal Room of the museum and online on our website and Social Media channels from May 1-19. Bids can be made by emailing or calling the museum office.  Winners will be able to pick up their purchases between May 23 and 26. Thank you so much to everyone for your support with this project.
