Hutchison House Christmas Market

The Christmas Season is upon us, and Hutchison House Museum volunteers will host their annual Christmas Market on Saturday November 23 from 9am-12pm. Home baking, shortbread, fruit pies, jams, jellies and preserves will be featured, along with other special seasonal treats. In addition to the Empire Cheese orders, we will be offering some of our most popular items for pre-ordering as well including greenery and shortbread. Be sure to order ahead to ensure that you get the items you hope for. The Deadline for all advance orders is Wednesday November 13, 2024.

Kawartha String Orchestra Presents: Annual Free Winter Concert Fundraiser

The Kawartha String Orchestra (KSO) is pleased to present their annual winter concert on Sunday November 24 starting at 2pm at St. James United Church (221 Romaine Street, Peterborough, ON). 

The theme of the concert is "Christmas, Seasons". Award-winning conductor and music director Tak Kwan and the KSO will play selections from Vivaldi, Purcell, music from the modern Christmas classic Home Alone, as well as popular Christmas sing-a-longs. Guest soloists include Tak Kwan (violin) and Marcus Quin (clarinet).

Admission is free; monetary donations to Kawartha Food Share are gratefully accepted.

The Jubilaires and Bonachords Ladies and Mens Choruses present their “Welcome Winter” musical concert on Sunday, December 1. 

Come and enjoy an afternoon of seasonal songs and carols beginning at 2:30 at Murray Street Baptist Church. 

Tickets are available from the singers or at the door for $25. Children under the age of 12 are admitted free.

Hutchison House Paint and Sip Nutcracker Workshop

In December the Museum will host a Paint and Sip Nutcracker Workshop on Sunday December 8 from 1-3:30pm. Enjoy a fun afternoon of tea and desserts by the fire, paint and decorate your own wooden Nutcracker and learn about its history. Workshop is $35 per person and includes materials and refreshments. Fireside Stories: Dickens and Dessert

Mark your calendars for Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol in the Keeping Room by firelight on Sunday, December 15thfrom 2-4pm. We will be listening to a recording of the 1939 Campbell Soup radio show presented by Orson Welles and starring Lionel Barrymore as Ebenezer Scrooge. A choice of dessert, tea and coffee will be served. The cost for the event is $15.00 per person prepaid. Seating is limited.
