The Pines shuts down to visitors
New restrictions have been put in place at 'The Pines' in Bracebridge during this lockdown. Our Samantha Johnson has more on that.
Muskoka's Front Line medical workers plan a different kind of Christmas due to COVID
With the lockdown coming just a few days away, the province is urging Ontarians to keep Christmas simple this year, immediate family only and not visiting extended relatives. For Muskoka's front line workers, this is a reality that they need to take very seriously to reduce the risk of spreading COVID either to their own families or to their patients. Cogeco News Host James Bowler had an opportunity this past week to speak with a few of MAHC's medical staff members to hear about how Christmas is going to look a lot different this year for them because it absolutely needs to be different.
Local doctor weighs in on health unit's community COVID weighting
Various community officials and even citizens of Muskoka have been calling for Simcoe and Muskoka to be split up and considered differently when it comes to COVID precautions under Ontario's framework. Currently, we are in the Red Zone, more because of a rise in cases in the Simcoe part of our region. And, Doctor John Simpson, a local physician, says he believes that might be a good thing in terms of how the cases are being dealt with behind the scenes with medical professionals.
Gravenhurst community volunteer receives special award
Community philanthropist and volunteer Gord Durnan has received some major recognition from the Town of Gravenhurst after he was nominated and awarded with Senior of the Year. We had a chance to chat with Gord in our Gravenhurst studio earlier today, take a look.
Local business struggles to stay open due to Covid-19
Restrictions as well as just fear of catching COVID are wreaking havoc on the event and entertainment industry.
Kim Rixon-Scott owner of Muskoka Party Rentals says her business has taken a massive nose dive during what would usually be a busy Christmas season.
Win $20,000 in cash!
Could you use a stack of cash to pay off some Christmas bills? Well the Rotary Club of Bracebridge wants to give you that opportunity as well as a chance to give back to the community.
Grant Nickalls talks about the late Ray Porter and his community impact
Last week, we learned of the loss of a major community figure, Ray Porter. YourTV reached out to one of his closest friends, Grant Nickalls, to learn more about the man who wore many hats in our community.
Huntsville business owners weigh in on moving to red in Simcoe Muskoka
A few Huntsville business owners say they're concerned about Muskoka being dragged into the red of Ontario's COVID safety framework, because of climbing numbers in Simcoe.
Muskoka On Stage (Dec 11)
Briar Summers returns with some Christmas cheer that's sure to warm up your holiday spirit this weekend.
Student work placement program
The Bracebridge Chamber of Commerce is giving students a leg up in the working world while also providing local businesses with an opportunity to get some employees at a very low cost.
Muskoka paramedic tests positive for Covid-19
Yesterday, the District of Muskoka announced a paramedic had recently become infected with COVID-19. Our Samantha Johnson spoke with Paramedic Chief Jeff McWilliam today to get more on this story.
Issues around CERB money has Gravenhurst couple frustrated
A three-letter word on the application for CERB is causing major stress for many across Canada this month. Revenue Canada is catching up with many who applied for the COVID benefit money saying they never qualified for the fund as they didn't make a NET of at least $5,000 in 2019. This means small businesses that considered their income net are being told no by the CRA due to the revenue agency considering that gross income instead. That means any money borrowed by those who didn't qualify has to be paid back by the end of 2020, or there will be big financial penalties. This is turning into a $28,000 nightmare for a charitable couple in Gravenhurst, who feel they've been cheated by the system and are now being forced into looking at alternate means of paying back, what they thought was miracle money, by the end of the year. Samantha Johnson reports.
