Step back in time to the 17th century with French Voyageur Jay Bailey, re-enactor Doug Robinson and Walpole Island representatives who will take you on a historical journey to the oldest European settlement in Ontario. Maritime historian Cris Kohl and author of The Wreck of the Griffon, the first ship to sail the upper Great Lakes, will tell the story of how the entire crew and valuable cargo disappeared; nearly ruining the explorer René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle. There will be entertainment including Red Raven Flutes, storytelling, a smudging ceremony plus Native and French cuisine. Sponsors and partners of the event will also be in attendance.
Rendez-vous Voyageur is a two-day living history festival that will explore the 1600-1700's to commemorate our local history including First Nations, métis and French cultures. Activities include drumming, jigging and live music, re-enactments, interactive displays, activities for kids, voyageur encampments, ancient lacrosse demonstrations, traditional cuisine, unique vendors, merchants, a pyro-musical fireworks show and more. The event will take place on September 20 and 21 at Gil Maure Park.
