The Friends of the Peterborough Public Library will be hosting a Children’s Book Sale on June 22nd in the Story Corner of the Peterborough Library from 10:00 am until 1 pm. The Sale is taking place at the same time as the Peterborough Library’s launch of the Summer Reading Program. There will  be a wide variety of Children’s books for all ages, from toddler to young adult. It’s a great time for parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles to stock up on children’s summer reading. In this workshop children will create their very own hand crafted journal. Your child will not only feel satisfaction for making their own book and personalizing it however they would like, but it will also make a great space for them to store memories.

The Camp is Friday June 7, 2024 from 9:30am - 12pm  and are suitable for children ages 6-12. The cost is $25 per attendant and pre-registration is required. Children are encouraged to bring their own peanut free snacks. For more information or to register phone 705-743-9710.

The Monthly Meeting of the Peterborough Astronomical Association's (PAA) will take place June 7th as a “Hybrid Meeting”, both online and at our traditional physical location of the Rotary Education Centre/Guest Services Building, Riverview Park Zoo. Nothing can stop the spread of information and knowledge by the members of the PAA, including our ability to accommodate those that can’t physically be at the meeting. Our work around involves using a Zoom platform. Our “Novice Astronomy Classes” are focused on the practical aspects of learning about astronomy. You will be introduced to astronomy related subjects at a very basic level, but in a logical sequence.  This month's session is a continuation of our Astronomy Class Series, Lesson 23 in the series, “Mobile Apps & Computer Software”. We will take a look at a plethora of tablet and phone applications that you can use under the stars.  In addition, there are online planning sites you can explore in advance to get the most from your time outside.  And for those nights when the clouds conspire against you, why not dig into some of the great planetarium programs that will be highlighted tonight?

During the hands-on segment of the class, audience participation will be indispensable as we investigate the relative sizes of the moons in our solar system.   Prepare to become better acquainted with these intriguing natural satellites.

If you are even remotely interested, be on-line by 6:00 p.m. to see what you can learn about the Universe around you. The classes will run about 45 minutes each session, before our regular meeting resumes. There’s no obligation to stay for the meeting that follows, but you are more than welcome to if you wish.

Shortly after 7:00 p.m. we will have a special presentation by, PAA members, who will be presenting their images and memories of the recent Total Solar Eclipse (April 8th). Whether you saw the eclipse or not, be sure to tune in to see what you missed or maybe compare experiences. This should prove to be an entertaining and unique experience for all concerned…and for some, an experience of a lifetime!

The Rotary Club of Peterborough is proud to introduce Bright Futures a new fundraiser in support of local and international Rotary Projects that help individuals and families to live Brighter Futures. 

Bright Futures is a raffle ticket fundraiser with more than $7500 in prizes available. The winning tickets will be drawn live at a dance party at the McDonnel Street Activity Centre on June 8th. 

Bright Futures Committee Co-Chair Amy Simpson says “organizers aimed to to offer prizes that would appeal to a broad number of adventure-minded people, including a $5000 travel voucher from Blowes & Stewart Travel, a 5-Night Cottage Rental on Catchacoma Lake and a Palusky Kayak and Paddle.” Fellow Co-Chair Susan Sharp notes that the Dance on June 8th will be a casual celebration with snacks, a cash bar, silent auction and live music from local band The Patio Stones. Doors open at 7PM and the draw itself will take place at 9PM. The owners of the winning tickets do not need to be present to win the draw prizes but Sharp adds “it would certainly add to the excitement to have the winners on site when the big prizes are given away.” 

Raffle tickets can be purchased for $10 each or 3 for $20. Dance tickets are $50.

Brett and Drew want to move out of their tiny downtown condo and into a house, but they just lost their seventh bidding war in Toronto. When Brett’s beloved Aunt Maggie dies in a nearby small town, the couple decides to make the move and start up a B&B out of her historic home. But when they face friction in their new community, the two discover that the simple life is more complicated than they thought.

The first 1000 people through the gate receive a branded glass and a sample of curd. All nine buildings at Farmtown Park are open to stroll through. Admission $15, ages 12 - 18 $5, under 12 no charge.

   The Volunteers of Hutchison House Museum are hosting a Gentlemen’s Day Afternoon Tea for Father’s Day on Sunday June 16th, starting at 2:00pm. A hearty lunch of delicious savories, sweets and tea will be served in the historic Keeping Room by firelight. The Friends of the Peterborough Public Library will be hosting a Children’s Book Sale on June 22nd in the Story Corner of the Peterborough Library from 10:00 am until 1 pm. The Sale is taking place at the same time as the Peterborough Library’s launch of the Summer Reading Program. There will  be a wide variety of Children’s books for all ages, from toddler to young adult. It’s a great time for parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles to stock up on children’s summer reading. the Peterborough Concert Band will perform at St John’s Anglican Church
 during the church’s annual Strawberry Social which runs from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.

Tickets for the Strawberry Social are $10 beginning June 2. Tickets will be $12 at the door.
Children 5 and under are free.

We invite you to join The Peterborough Concert Band at St. John’s Strawberry Social on June 23rd, 2024The Peterborough Concert Band performs at St John’s Anglican Church as part of the annual Strawberry Social. Music by the two winners of the Emerging Composers’Program will be premiered. Music includes Birdland Baba Yetu and other lively tunes. The Strawberry social is a time-honoured tradition with delicious refreshments including fresh strawberries. Tickets go on sale at St John’s starting June 2nd.Proceeds go to the School Breakfast Program. The band will be in the sanctuary if it rains.

Brett and Drew want to move out of their tiny downtown condo and into a house, but they just lost their seventh bidding war in Toronto. When Brett’s beloved Aunt Maggie dies in a nearby small town, the couple decides to make the move and start up a B&B out of her historic home. But when they face friction in their new community, the two discover that the simple life is more complicated than they thought.
