Witness Frankie on their journey towards connecting with queer, trans, and disabled lineages through the murkiness of disembodiment. Carolyn, a curious, awe-filled 11-year-old, and Francis, a wise, mysterious figure, comfort Frankie as they navigate a dangerous and dismissive healthcare system. Faced with their mortality, Frankie reflects on the numbness they want to shed and the connectedness they long for. Moving from disconnection towards embodiment and a reignited relationship with the land they’re on, Frankie begins to remember how to be present again, as they start to uncover the threads that tie them to their queer, trans, and disabled ancestors.

Accessibility Information:

All shoWs are relaxed performances and low-vision friendly. Masks required and provided.
ASL interpreting will be provided for the Sept 24 and 26 shows, and all shows are Low Vision Friendly using integrated description (meaning most visual information is integrated into the auditory elements of the show). Pre-show touch tours and a pre-show audio track that describes quiet moments in the show are available to low-vision audience members. Please contact frankiemcgee0@gmail.com to access them.

Artist Statement:

I began this project in 2021, wanting to explore queer, trans, and disabled community lineages, and how to connect with histories that have been erased, while being immersed in a world that has been shaped by those histories. Since then, animosity towards queer, trans, and disabled people has only grown, evident in social and legislative changes directly targeting these groups’ rights. We’re seeing public displays against queer cultural expression, increased power of the state to end marginalized disabled people’s lives and limit social supports, and expansions to carceral systems. In this terrifying climate, it feels ever more important to root ourselves in queer, trans, & disabled lineages.

There is so much love and fight in these lineages, and their histories have been so intentionally erased. Queer, trans, and disabled people have always existed, in quiet and visible ways, even when we haven’t been given space to do so. weaving creek stones is my grief-and-love-filled effort to reach for the ancestors I am connected to through queer and disabled community, and break through the disembodiment perpetuated by the systems we live under. I hope this show inspires audiences to connect to their own inner knowing, and the wisdom we each hold in all the different versions of ourselves.

Benefit Concert

07:00 PM — 10:00 PM

Once again this year, Kenneth Beal, tenor from Würzburg Germany, and Charles Gerard, concert pianist from Oshawa, are combining their amazing talents to perform a Benefit Concert raising funds for the Breakfast Program at The Salvation Army in Peterborough.

The Breakfast Program operates from the Salvation Army church in downtown Peterborough five mornings a week, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 to 10:00am, and is funded entirely by donations. The Community and Family Services staff and many volunteers distribute breakfast meals to individuals, including adults and children, who line up looking for a meal to start the day. Since 2020, the numbers of people accessing these meals has increased significantly. Presently, on average, 600 breakfast meals are being served each week. The need has increased, and so has the cost of groceries. Without any government funding, The Salvation Army relies heavily on donations to keep the supply of food available.

The Benefit Concert is sponsored by the family of Lloyd Beal, Kenneth’s father, who volunteered many hours for the Breakfast Program. ALL ticket money and donations collected as a result of the concert will go directly to support this much-needed program. The Peterborough Salvation Army Trust Board has agreed to match dollar for dollar the amount of money raised through the concert. So a $20 ticket becomes a $40 donation!!

So, mark your calendars for Saturday, September 27th at 7:00pm for an evening of unmistakeably great music at The Salvation Army Peterborough Community Church. Tickets are $20, and are available by contacting JoAnne Leach at 705-760-5514, or by email djleach79@yahoo.ca. Tickets will also be available at the door. Please consider attending the concert and in doing so, support the provision of food to those in need.

weaving creek stones, a one-person play by Frankie McGee

01:00 PM — 02:30 PM

Pierre Bensusan - One Guitar, One Voice - 50th Anniversary

07:00 PM — 08:30 PM

If World Music means the fusion of traditional, contemporary, jazz, classical and pop music, then Bensusan is one of the most eloquent World Music musicians of our time. A pianist in his beginnings then self-taught on the guitar, the originality of his style makes him one of today’s greatest guitarists and composers for the instrument. Also called “The Prince of DADGAD”, the Rose d’Or of the Montreux Festival, elected Best Guitarist of World Music by the readers of Guitar Player Magazine! His triple album “Encore” won the Grand Prix of the Independent Music Awards in the category Best Live Album… Since his first performances in 1974 in France, the guitarist has sold half a million albums and given thousands of concerts around the globe, both solo and through numerous collaborations.

Pierre Bensusan is an adventurer of unusual lands. His almost “sacred” music is an intimate and orchestral hymn, a solo crossing on a multi-shell Lowden guitar subjected to the natural elements with sound molecules and finger pulp on an ebony fingerboard for open tuning – an unique and transparent technique, under the fingers of an adventurous pilgrim.

International “Observe the Moon” Night

Saturday, October 4 to Sunday, October 5
08:00 PM — 11:59 AM

Mark October 4th on your calendar because it’s International “Observe the Moon” Night and the Peterborough Astronomical Association (PAA) is hosting a free, all ages, public event at the Harold Town Conservation Area, at 2611 Old Norwood Rd. and you are all invited! Whether you have astronomy gear or not, why not come out and be part of this worldwide event to celebrate our only “natural” satellite…the Moon! International Observe the Moon Night is a worldwide public event that encourages observation, appreciation and understanding of our Moon and its connection to space science, exploration, and human culture. This annual event connects scientists, educators, lunar enthusiasts and interested public from around the world as Canada prepares to be part of mankind’s return to the Moon next year!

On this night, a 12 day-old Moon will be nearing the end of its waxing gibbous phase, so the lunar disk will be over half lit, not only illuminating many craters across the moonscape, but also providing a “terminator” that will highlight the boundary between the light and “dark sides” of the Moon. Please plan to show up about 8:00 p.m. EDT, as sunset is about 7:30 p.m. but the Moon should be visible and remain so until after midnight. Spend as little or much time as you like, no gear required, as there will be a variety of telescopes and binoculars to observe the Moon throughout the evening provided by the PAA.

The included image is close to what you will see during the evening of October 4th.Who can resist the welcoming light of the Moon and all it has to offer? Come and explore our closest celestial neighbour, with like-minded “lunatics”…around the world!

Dress according to conditions and a reminder that this is a weather dependent event and will be cancelled if necessary. Please check the PAA website and/or Facebook page for updates the day of this event.
