Rock & Roll Camp 4 Girls*

12:00 AM — 11:59 PM

For Immediate Release: RC4G* Peterborough - Rock Camp is Back!

RC4G* Peterborough is a community group committed to creating inclusive spaces for girls & gender non-conforming youth to experience and explore rock music, gain confidence and build community.

Since 2006 RC4G* Peterborough has been facilitating a range of community programming initiatives from summer camp to monthly jam sessions, community building events, skill building workshops and mentorship programs. Now, for the first time since the summer of 2019 - RC4G* Peterborough is bringing back Rock Camp.

The revitalisation of Rock Camp is built on a collaboration with Sadleir House & Trent Radio. Starting in 2025, RC4G* Peterborough’s programming is running under the administrative umbrella of Sadleir House, with programming leadership from Trent Radio’s Director of Programming (and Rock & Roll Fairy Godmother) Jill Staveley.

“As we rebuild RC4G* Programming and our Rock Squad, we’re moving slowly and keeping things as simple as possible with the hopes that we can foster a new and sustainable infrastructure for RC4G* goals and initiatives” says Staveley of the plans for Rock Camp this summer. “We managed to deliver a songwriting mentorship program with funding from Arts Alive in 2022 - but up until we started Rock Block (a monthly open jam session for young musicians with experience) this past February - RC4G* activity had been very quiet since Summer 2019.”

Summer Camp will take place at Sadleir House (751 George St North), and will run from Monday July 28th through Friday August 1st. At the end of the week, campers will perform at the Big Gig on Friday August 1st at 4:30pm. This will also take place at Sadleir House in the John K Muir Dining Hall.

Campers don’t need to play or own an instrument to attend Rock Camp, all skill levels are welcome, as there is always a wide range of musical experience at camp each year. Throughout the week campers will be assigned an instrument (guitar, bass or drums), and be placed in a band with 3 other campers. They will attend workshops, instrument lessons and band practice each day where they will write and rehearse an original song.

The cost to attend camp is $300, and there are some funds set aside for camper subsidies on a sliding scale. For more information, please contact Jill Staveley at rc4gpeterborough@gmail.com. The registration form can be found online at RC4G* Peterborough’s facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/rc4gpeterborough
