Born in Deseronto, Kerr attended schools here and in Toronto. With the outbreak of the First World War, he enlisted on September 22, 1914 with the 3rd Battalion Canadian Expeditionary Force. This plaque is located in Centennial Park in Deseronto.

This "remarkable little town" has the distinction of being home of Ontario's oldest municipal government. In 1998, Sidney Township (which included the village of Wallbridge) was amalgamated with the City of Quinte West.

In 1867 Ontario's first gold mine went into production and the community of Eldorado was founded. A number of small gold mines were subsequently established in southeastern Ontario, including the Deloro, Gilmour, Cordova, Feigle, Bannockburn and Golden Fleece. Eldorado is just north of Madoc on highway 62.
