Yesterday evening was ignition night for the annual Light Up The Hills event in Halton Hills. Craig McNicoll attended and is probably is still seeing spots from staring directly into the ligths... but yknow, worth it for this story.

Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward is being recognized as the Mayor of the Year throughout all of the municipalities in Canada. This is via an industry publication entitled "Municipal World". It's the third year Milton's downtown BIA has hosted a tree lighting. In that time, the executive director shared that it's grown from about 20 people to roughly 100 who attended this year. Progress in bringing more people downtown that the BIA and business owners hope translates into other kinds of success as well.

And while everyone deserves the right to live free from violence, many people continue to experience it each and every day related to their gender. Today, Milton-East Halton Hills South MP Kristina Tesser Derksen was joined by MP Rechie Valdaz, the minister of women and gender equality, to announce strengthened federal support for the national action plan to end gender based violence.
