Well we all know about the back shed, the tool shed and the pool shed. Many have even heard about the craze for she sheds a few years ago. This story is about men's sheds, the kind that started 25 years ago in Australia. Nikki Wesley explains how it's creating a social space for retired men.

On yesterday's show we told you that following the deactivation of its speed cameras the Town of Oakville has received more than 891 thousand dollars from the Province to cover some of the costs of keeping its streets safe. However, Burlington would not be receiving any funds as despite announcing their automated speed enforcement plan, the cameras had not yet been activated. What type of deficit does this put the city in? That was Jason Agnew's first question today in his weekly chat with Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward.

If you happen to be exploring Oakville on any Saturday morning, you may be surprised to see a large group of chihuahuas walking through the downtown. These dogs are part of a club called the Chihuahuas of Oakville, who walk for fun and to raise money for the Oakville and Milton Humane Society. Here's Craig McNicoll with the story.

Earlier this week Jason Agnew chatted with Dr. Polo about her book, where she defines hunger into 6 categories and believe it or not, only one is considered a "good" form of hunger or as she calls it the "healthy hunger".

The Compassion Society is undertaking a new fundraising campaign aimed at helping those in the community who need a hand. Entitled "Every Dollar Feeds Hope" the goal is to keep offering a range of assistance, from food to clothing and referral services, to hundreds of people every month. They're hoping to receive generous support from across Halton Region.

Good news! By taking the time to sort our garbage, recycling and compost into separate bins, our region has been able to keep a whopping 136 thousand 5 hundred and 70 tons of material out of our local landfill, and instead create new products with it, helping to reduce greenhouse gas and preserving our natural resources. A time honoured tradition kicked off in milton this weekend. Salvation army kettles popped up around the city as they do every Christmas season since 1891. Nikki Wesley spoke with salvation army captain to find out what the kettles are all about.

Santa's upcoming sleigh ride is clearly going to have plenty of security as Canada and the US are working together under NORAD to ensure the big man in red gets all his gifts delivered on time. Santa even stopped by NORAD operations in North Bay to ensure staff was up to snuff, but of course he brought plenty of holly and jolly to the crew as well.

Burlington is celebrating a home-grown athlete who's quickly rising to an elite level. Tennis phenom Victoria Mboko was presented with the key to the city last Friday during a ceremony that included many dignitaries and additional honours. In 2025 she rose more than 300 places in the world tennis rankings to become a household name – most notably winning the national bank open in Montreal.
