The Fergie Jenkins Foundation and Black History Museum
The Fergie Jenkins Foundation and Black History Museum, located in St. Catharines, is back booking tours in their incredible facility that showcases items from the career of Fergie Jenkins, a Canadian Major League Baseball player that played the majority of his career for the Cubs. He was a National League (NL) and Cubs All-Star for three seasons, and in 1971, he was the first Canadian and Cubs pitcher to win a Cy Young Award. He was a 20-game winner for seven seasons, including six consecutive seasons for the Cubs.The Source's Jesse Nobrega made a visit to the Foundation, that also houses a section on Niagara's black history.
Baby's Breath Canada
Stillbirth rates have been rising every year since 2013. Baby's Breath, the national organization that supports families who have lost babies to SIDS, is launching a campaign this Friday to educate and create awareness. Mary Margaret Murphy is joins Mike Balsom on Zoom to discuss the campaign.
The Gravel Run for Lyme Disease
Lyme disease is spread through the bite of infected ticks. In 2017, there were over 1400 cases of the disease across Canada, most of them in Ontario. The Gravel Run on October 16th raises funds for research into the disease through the G. Magnotta Foundation. Dennis Matthews joins Mike Balsom on Zoom to explain the event.
Tim Hortons Move for Kids Sake
Big Brothers Big Sisters of North & West Niagara is encouraging you to Move for Kids Sake. Their campaign is on now until October 31st. Josh McKernan is their digital fundraising officer and Josh explains to Mike that every $1,000 raised can support a match for a full year.
Green Door Project Dental Clinic
The Niagara Falls Community Health Centre has partnered with the Green Door Project to provide no-cost, emergency dental care for individuals 18-64 years of age, without coverage for dental care through either private health insurance or any form of social assistance. The Green Door Project was started in November 2020 by Green Shield Canada who are also working with the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Toronto to conduct dental research through this initiative.
Niagara Symphony Orchestra
