This week's Halton mayors chat is with Oakville Mayor Rob Burton. We took a look back at 2025 highlights, and ahead to 2026 hopes, but Jason Agnew started the conversation in Midtown. Last we checked in with Mayor Burton, MP Stephen Crawford had helped organize a meeting with the Provincial Government which included acting Minister of Infrastructure Todd McCarthy and Minister of Municipal Affairs Robert Flack. This was to discuss the controversial 11 tower development in Midtown Oakville that the Province has taken control over. Jason asked Mayor Burton if Oakville residents can expect changes coming out of this gathering.

A program that teaches young people sewing skills and addresses sustainability in a world of fast fashion is the newest in the "She Can Create" series at the Milton Community Resource Centre. The "Green Couture Collective" is led by a Milton fashion designer who creates her own up-cycled clothing. At the same time, she's sharing knowledge with the girls that she wishes she had had in high school.

According to a recent Our Kids Network survey, 29% of youth have reported feeling lonely or isolated in Halton. The Oakville Youth Action Committee are working to make sure everyone has an opportunity to connect, Nikki Wesley explains.

2025 was significant for Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward as she was named the Canadian Mayor of the Year by Municipal World Magazine. This afternoon, in our first update of 2026, Jason Agnew asked Mayor Meed Ward about what she believed was her most significant accomplishment for the City of Burlington this past year.

Burlington North – Milton West MP Adam Van Koevedern was appointed Canada's Secretary of sport in 2025... a very appropriate position for the multi-time olympian.  And with this being a year of the winter olympics, Adam has declared 2026 Canada's year of sport, and it all begins with the presense of FIFA coming to the country.

In Oakville, a crowd of thrill-seekers started off the new years with a splash at the 41st annual 'courage polar bear' dip. Reporter Craig McNicoll was there to witness the frozen fun.
